Default What is the point of 'Reputation' on iWebTool?

I see that iWebTool and many other forums have a Reputation system, where you can gain and lose rep points... but what's the point? (pun intended! :-) )

Is the rep system purely to show other forum users who's considered a knowledgeable poster, or does it cary other advantages - i.e. for SEO purposes/signature links etc??

It's a popularity contest.

Really, it is. Think about it.

The more you have, the more you're known. The more a new user sees you have, the more he thinks you know what you're talking about.

I think it's a great addition, because Post Count doesn't quite get the job done as far as showing who's really knowledgable or whatnot around here.

It is part popularity, but I've never ever seen a member get good reputation without first giving great feedback to the forums, no matter how popular you are....At this forum, you are popular simply by being informative and interesting.

It would really make every senior and below member so much happier if all the moderator or guru and above would help in boosting the "Reputation" for us. Don't know what's the rule on that?? (Jumpen, i just pm you...)

There are no rules saying that you can't give reputation out just simply to help junior members gain reputation points. There have been several occasions where I have given out reputations simply to give out reputations in order to make the reputation system take off better.
