Question Are hyphens in domain names a good thing?

I'm thinking of registering some new domain names for new sites. I know that to have keywords in the domain name is a good thing (i.e. Google likes it!), but should keywords be separated by hyphens?

I won't mention the actual domains I have in mind, for obvious reasons, but as an example say I was setting up a site about breeding pedigree dogs...

Is www.breedingpedigreedogs.com
better than
www.breeding-pedigree-dogs.com ??

In the first one, would Google still recognise "breeding", "pedigree" and "dogs" as keywords in the domain name?

Thanks in anticipation
Paul

I think you should go with the second one. It clearly shows what it is all about. Even, we can say it - Search engine and User-friendly domain.

They look better without hyphens.

The link is clearer with the hyphens in between keywords..

I recommend not using hypens, Google's launguage technology can tell different words apart its also better for SEO. Try domaintools & enter a domain with out hyphens to see what i mean it spells the meanings to you

Take my domain on domain tools look how it separates the letters correctly

If you have the option, do it both ways.....Using hyphens is helpful to seperate words for search engines, not using them is easier for your potential vistors to type in correctly.

If the domain name is easy to remember, i would prefer without hyphens. Orelse, the hyphen will do for SEO purpose.

yep, hyphen is not good, but once the keyword combined domain (without -) already regged, with hyphen is still a good choice. I have heard that google search engine recognize the name with hyphen well.

Hello Logic here.
I do not own a single domain name with a hypen in it. This is just our ways of buying.
We do have a lot of names only .com of course. I just try to buy these names as clean as possible for the value over the long term 5 to 10 years out. keywords are great that you are buying.
Hey if the 2 names are both available, names are cheap today compaired to 10+ years ago so buy them both?

Been buying daily for just over 10 years now and this has been fruitful keeping the names clean.

Logic...
