![]() | I have had 3 shared hosters suspend my proxy site because it's using too many server resources, mainly processor power. I use PHProxy and I get around 2GB bandwidth per day. When I ordered my first ever VPS, I was then told they don't allow any proxy sites either ..... so what the hell? Who DOES allow proxy sites? I need a VPS (or a dedicated) server, under $30 / month, with at least 1GB space and 150GB bandwidth who won't bi*** about taking up processor speed and such. Is there a proxy hoster like that out there, who is KNOWN to allowing PHProxy on their VPS, without complaining? I would appreciate any help that I could get, as it's really urgent and I have to move by the end of the upcoming week-end.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi there, Look, Proxy sites have to use a lot of resources to run because they run so many processes at once, therefore you would be using up a lot of memory, so it isn't really the bandwidth a lot of hosts are bothered about it is straining of a server. You have to take into consideration that when you rent a server you usually share it with other people, so if your proxy strains the server, you knock other clients down as well as yourself. I am a web host myself, and since experiencing such strains and memory usage I have banned all type of proxies, warez, IRC, etc. It is too costly for the host. If you are looking at hosting one, expect to pay quite a bit as they can be expensive to run. Hope that helped you with your query why people won't run them. Regards, Kieran Taylor, SimpleNetwork.co.uk |

| Permanently Banned Contributor | Proxy sites do take a lot of the system resources same as irc cause too much people chat on it and proxy sites use a lot of the server's resources. If your using that much i suggest you rent a dedicated server or ...buy a server yourself which isn't hard. Get your laptop to be a server too. Just leave your computer on. Get some internet access on your site. Get a isp to get you a ipaddress. Then install php and apache on your laptop /computer. Then change your name server to your computer. And your all done.
