There are many ways to get your website listed in the major search engines. A complete and successful strategy most often than not will include all or most of the strategies discussed herein.
Before we can talk about your different options, we must first discuss the attributes that each engine will require of your site. In general, search engines will take into consideration the content of your site, your page titles, your meta tags, your popularity and your relevance. Some of these are easier to enhance than others.

The quickest way to be listed in the search engine is for the SE's to find your site in another site.

Quickest way in my opinion is submission social networking sites. Here is a list of sites http://www.webcosmo.com/Tools/bookma...arkServer.aspx

I have seen sites get index in less then 2 hours.

webcosmo's method is a good one. Just submit your site to del.icio.us or digg and it'll get crawled real quick

Yes, Digg is really good, one of my web page has been crawled within 3 hours by Google after using digg for that page.

You make it sound complex...Plus, you forgot the biggest reason, and the best way to get a site indexed in a SE....If you can get an indexed site to link to you, any indexed site, then you will also shortly be indexed in the SE's. Becoming indexed in the SE's doesn't require any "Strategies", it requires a few minutes of time, some common sense, and a minute amount of know how.

Do you consider any importance adding your URL to the Google index and to Yahoo, MSN and DMOZ? Especially if your website is new, this is a MUST!

I've never added a site to a Search Engine. It usually only takes a few days for SE's to find your site, so really, there isn't a point in it. Although, there are a few SE's that require you to submit, the major SE's don't.

Agree, submitting to SEs is a waste of time since SEs will find site because they crawled all over the WWW. Once your site is linked to already crawled site soon your site will be indexed...

Some preferred SE submission but I think, it's more effective if the SE finds your site naturally. With just a few good links, your site will be crawled and indexed on SE db
