my website http://www.mortgagesinc.co.uk has been up and running for a couple of years. In Yahoo for terms like Mortgage Broker it ranks 2-4. Google however is a different story. I know they are different but can anyone give me any tips.

I have a sitemap and have used various tags.

You have to think out of the box, your site is nice, but you need to put somthing on there to make people come back, mortgage calculator or somthing like that. More content and better content will get you more visitors !

Submitting a sitemap wont get you a better rank and everyone suggests getting more links blah blah blah.

Concentrate on making ur site the best mortgage site out there !

And while I do agree with the above post, - The target should be to make a Great site, I know as a fact that even if you will achieve the goal of making your site "the best" in its category - it will not make it the busiest in that category!


Best and busiest are apparently 2 different things!

My website was named - I quote:


by one of the drum magazines!! - And no I did not pay for that in fact I did not even know that they would be reviewing it.


Nevertheless - it did not make it the busiest...

I agree, you need good content to make people come back, but without plents of IBL's very few people will find it in the first place. I would suggest working on link building, articles and press releases seem to work quite well at the moment.

That depends on what you actually want. Three wariants
- get high PR
- fly high in poogle's serp
- get good conversion
I think the conversion is what matters for you, so of course you should concentrate on building of the site that offers your potentical customers what they really want and in the most user-friendly form available. Examine the websites of your competitors and steal the best ideas.
Another matter is attracting new clients. That is a pure SEO technological question. And at first, determine your budget for linkbuilding. But as for me, high conversion rate is more important. It's not so difficult to attract new visitors as to make them pay.

Agree w sheena. I would only recommend not to acquire tons of backlinks at a time. Especially if you did not change your site's content significantly. Otherwise poogle will pay special attention to such strange jump of your PR. Go step by step
