I checked Alexa rating tonight for my site and found my site is down in rating ,Does Alexa rating affect google page rank. I don't quite understand the Alexa rating . What is the difference between Google page rank and Alexa rating other than they are two different organizations.

I think that the Alexa rating has nothing to do with the Google Page Ranking. Alexa gets its ratings from people using their Alexa toolbar, thats how they count hits and what they think is popular. Alexa count Yahoo as the number 1 site in the world and has been for as long as you can look back. I thought Google would be number 1 now.

Alexa ranking and Google pagerank have no connection. Alexa rank is based purely on a sample of traffic to any website. The sample is generated only by browsers that hav ethe toolbar installed. It is not really representative of the true traffic as mot everybody has the Alexa toolbar installed, and probably only particular groups of individuals, for example webmasters. Don't rely on Alexa as a true measurement, more than a loose indication. I have an Alexa rank of about 285,000, which can translate to anything from a few hundred visitors per week, up to a few tens of thousands of visitors per week. Alexa rank is of very little real use.

As other members said, Alexa rating & Google PR is not related in any sense. Alexa is based on the number of visitors visit some website and Alexa toolbar is installed in their browser.

Alexa is pretty hit and miss, as others have said... but it's still an ego boost when your ranking improves! I've gone from 3,404,015 in August to 975,021 now (end Oct). OK, I know it doesn't come close to you international forum owners, but feels OK for a small UK-only retail store.

I read somewhere that Alexa is more common in Europe, therefore does not represent a reliable image, unless that is your crowd.

To online advertisers Alexa ranking is useful to them. Because they want a high Alexa for their advertisements....but to many it is useless as it can be manipulated....
