Ping Test Question I recently installed a simple workgroup connection between two XP computers. The components consisted of a Netgear Router, CAT5 Cable, PCs, Comcast Cable Modem (ISP), and single HP LaserJet printer. I tested the networking connections prior to delivery, and all worked fine as I was able to ping all workstations and print to the printer. I then connected the equipment at the site.
To the Site:
The cable terminations were done by an electrician who simply pulled the cabling through the wall; no termination boxes, just RJ16 connections
Result:
I was ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET AT BOTH WORKSTATIONS using the CAT5 cabling. I was able to ping from one workstation to the other workstation and receive a response. I was NOT able to ping from the other workstation and receive a response back from any\either the printer, netgear, other Workstation. It was my thought that the PING is at level 2 on the OSI model and therefore below any software configs. Any ideas on how to test this connection? |
