How to promote a website successfully?

Hi! Everybody!

At first, please let me introduce myself to you. My job is website promotion. I would like to add these two websites to the looksmart date base. They are http://www.vi4s.com & http://www.cheers4game.com.
But I haven't made it yet.

Will you give me some advice? Millions of thanks!

I would concentrate on good or great content for your sites. Then they will start to get many 1 way in links.

There's a lot of site's wherein you can submit your own site other than looksmart.. Submit to quality directories and find sites that are relevant with yours

-The first place you should get your website listed is in some of the hundreds of search engines on the internet and the best approach to search engine placement is to have separate pages tuned for each major search engine.

-Start a mailing list (newsletter) and send them updates to keep them coming back, this is a must for anyone with an online website.

-Use a signature file in your email. Not too long, but enough to give them some information on your site. Change them frequently so that people don't tune them out.

-Exchange links with like sites and put your link on every site with a free-for-all links page. This also helps
improve your position with search engines. By increasing the number of links to your web site you can dramatically improve your search engine result positioning.

-Joining a banner exchange network is free advertising for your site. Try searching on a search engine to find some exchanges related to your site topic.

-Give something away, or put in links to free stuff. Everyone loves a freebie!
-If you receive an award, a lot of publicity and traffic can be generated within some of these award sites.

-Without spamming, send them a sample article or something to get readers interested enough to come visit your site.

First you have to know what are the techniques people use for promotion.
Some are:
- Blog commenting
- Classified ad posting
- Social bookmarking
- Social Networking
- Forum posts, signature, avatar
- Different link building techniques
- Search engine optimization
There are more...
Now you can find resources on each of these and master yourself.

How important is to have a facebook or myspace profile for promotion. I read in another forum that Google is heavily looking at personal blogs these days. I am new to all this . I am just visiting a few forums and trying to find out what is the best way to promote websites on line.
