I have started my own business and I am looking for a way to promote it so I can have traffic coming through but for a low cost if no cost at all. Can someone help me or have any suggestions?

You can promote your site for free and at low cost. And if you know SEO, you can promote it to free classified ads on which you can post promotional ads about products and services. Another is advertisement through forums on which you can share about new product.

First I identify the target market, and their range of interests related to my site. (including search terms)

Then I'll optimise a page in the site which has appeal for the market I'm after, or create a new one. I'll write a 300 word article, put it into e-zines or another article directory, with a signature both to my site page and the index page. Then I'll write a short version of it for my blog site, and again link it to the main web site and the relevant page.

I might run some adwords, but that needs tight control. They are best for selecting real niche markets. eg "November Break Glencoe" which we will run for only three weeks, before changing it.

The key factor is to identify the target market correctly and breaking down their interests into chunks.
