Yep, search engines rule. The Internet would be a very, very different place without them.

There is nothing wrong with getting more traffic from referrals, it just means that you are getting links in the right palce, and eventually search engine traffic will come if you keep doing what you are doing

I have a site that gets visitors in equal shares from SE, referrals and direct. Nothing wrong about it, some sites work better in the SE, some other get more from referrals - these probably offer something really useful

With many pages, the search engines find you many times but that does not mean that you have quality traffic in the market for what you sell.

We have found that we get high conversion rates from referrals from other sites that offer the same thing as ourselves. (self catering in Scotland.) They can't find the date they want from others, don't want to go to generalised directories so they come to us and all the other sites in the list.

But we need 1,000 visitors to get one booking from generalised searches. I'd rather use directories.

I like high traffic, but it is only an ego boost.

I would think SE's would be the best for most sites, but never rely 100% on SE traffic. If you do this then you could see your business doing very well one day and then all gone the next.
