 |  How do I get categories listed in google? How does Google decide when to display categories in search results? e.g. search for guitar strings and you get.. -------------------------------------------------------- The UK & Europe's No.1 supplier of guitar strings, bass strings and instrument accessories. Here at the Strings xxxxx website you can buy electric or ... www.stringsxxxx.co.uk/ - 61k - Cached - Similar pages Strings - stringsxxxx.co.uk/Catalogue/default.aspx?categoryId=1-------------------------------------------------------- (yes, I've change the url so I don't give them free links! Not that it would make any difference to them...) Is it just down to the number of matching keywords in each category? Is it to do with how site maps are submitted? Or...?? Thanks, Paul

| Re: How do I get categories listed in google? Google is treating the site at the top as an authority. it is down mostly to high quality inbound links and also having a REAL SEO'ed navigation and file structure.

| Re: How do I get categories listed in google? Couple of things I noticed and maybe OWG can add to this. The domain is quite old. Established in 1999. It appears around 2004 they got SEO'd. They went from PHP to ASP and highly structured out their web nav structure. Also, if you look at the categories listed on the serps, they are top level categories with a HUGE amount of sub content and subpages. A good tool for all learning webmasters, me included, is to use the WayBackMachine. Go to a site and look what they have done over the years to be successful. Watch how they have grown and learned. I use it often and save myself from making many mistakes. Most of the time.  |
