What can you do when a website is not getting indexed by Google and other search engines.

Information about a site with this problem is as follows:
1) Domain age - around 3 yrs, signed it up new.
2) Initially site was in php, now the whole site is in aspx.
3) Some link exchange but not much.

The site is not getting indexed at all, not a single page.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Just general possible causes please.

Was the site being indexed before moving from php to aspx? Are there any sites linking in?

Google will find your site if it knows of another page that provides a link into your site, otherwise you need to tell Google about your site, have you uploaded a sitemap and informed google of this?

BTW what is the site url?

The uri is private for this site, it's a joint project.

It's never been indexed, google has a sitemap. it's getting a perfect goosegg from all three major players. I haven't seen this before, the normal culprits aren't to blame.

I'll post the uri if I can get permission to do so. Looking for ideas anyway.

As a 3 year old domain I would have expected this to have been indexed at some time by now, has it been banned in the past?

1) It might have no backlinks
2) It might not be crawlable
3) It might of been banned/removed from Google for some reason.

Because you say it's not on any search engine, then option 1 or 2 look likely.

wll lets see its a private url you dont want to post the url for in here why would you want it to be listed on any search engine? duh... so you invented the worlds best mousetrap but dont want to share it then dont advertise it...

Even if a site has no backlinks and is not crawlable, if you submit tit to G then in time you will get a partially indexed page result.

have you looked at canonical issues, ie you could be checking site:www.domain.com/ but google might have indexed domain.com/ that would result in it not returning any known pages.

The domain having been banned is also a possibility, but on all THREE? unlikely.

Dumb question, but someone hasn't screwed up your htaccess and is blocking robots by any chance?

Sadly, without the willingness to share the domain, you are not going to get any individual case help as we can only generalise. I can't help thinking though that if you are saying it is a private URL, then why worry about being spidered?
