![]() | I second that The step after that is to have your site completely ready for your targeted visitors, always make sure your site is 100% user friendly and no broken links. After that start working with keywords in your content so searches places you at the top of the SERP (where you want to be), but make sure your site is built for people(who are first priority), not spiders or searches(who should be second). You also want relevant, one-way backlinks. A big mistake I've seen people do is put their affiliates page on the navbar. You don't want SEs to find that page, ever, making all your affiliate links one-way(you could use js links to do this too so your affiliates won't hate you). |

![]() | I think you created your own website first (about anything) and then you optimize it as much as you can. A few months or weeks later or longer if necessary, when you get a good SE ranking, you can start to promote yourself using the normal internet marketing strategies.

![]() ![]() | I started designing sites that would sell, I worked out how search engines worked. I got my design client sites ranking well, I then got people coming to me as they had found my client sites ranking well and wanted some of the pie for themselves. I then got people not wanting redesign but needed help. Then I stopped doing design work and became a full time SEO/web marketer. Then a few years ago, Jill Whalen approached me and asked me if I would help moderate her new forum at High Rankings. Jill is one of the best known SEO's in the world, so that kinda helped. Then I was a founder editor on the SEO roundtable when Barry Shwarts asked me if I would help him. Then Robert Clough of Searchengine guide approached me to moderate there, and before long I had become an expert LOL. I have some great online friends now and you know what the best thing is? I can work with whoever I want, it don't matter, big small etc. Which reminds me I better get back to laying out my work for tomorrow ![]()

![]() | OWG is correct. It just sort of happens. You will find that many of the best SEO people started on the marketing and design end, not the programming end. It really takes a left side thinker that was forced to become a right side thinker to be good at SEO. Selling is the ultimate goal. It is very hard for many right side thinkers to make the leap to the left side. (Sides of the brain if you know what I mean.) |

![]() ![]() | I have to make a comment here though and it is not meant to be negative it is a caveat emptor. I have moderated forums online, and posted on bulletin boards before the web was invented and it was the plain old internet with IP addresses not urls. In the last 2-3 years I am seeing more and more people offering SEO services. I have absolutely no problem with this, but what I do have an issue with is the fact that MOST of them do not have a CLUE what SEO really is about. The funniest thing is that they join forums with usernames like TOPSEO or SEO KING etc, then ask questions like 'what is meant by anchor text' People would not set themselves up as financial advisors without taking exams and studying, yet they set themselves up as SEO's a role wghereby people place THEIR FUTURE in your hands. They set themselves up as SEO's when they think that it is simply about building backlinks with the anchor text of ONE PHRASE and THAT is seo? A little while back I posted the referrals from search for one hour on one of my sites. There were 700 referral phrases 700 different phrasesin ONE HOUR. THAT is optimisation done properly. As an aside and it is more as a comment here. I often work with new SEO's by providing reports to them at a lower cost that they then use to actually carry out the SEO. Again it is something I drifted into as friends online in forums etc asked me if I would consider doing a report for one of their customers. The customer never knows about me. ![]()

| Junior Member | OWG (or somebody else) would you please tell me (or else might be) the step to learn seo? I'm very new in seo... i have learned how to code a web site for about 2 years then I got disappointed when i have very few visitors came into my web site. I had 3 site containing affiliate products and product reviews, updated daily. Now I start a new web site. I've been writing simple summary in my small book of what i've learned... but I need some good advices how to start or the path to learn. I also track the number of visitors using extremetra@#^& and find disappointed numbers day by day... This is the simple list i have: - choosing good keyword for topic of the web - choosing a good and related domain name with the keyword for the web - good layout (design and navigation) of the web - get one way link to my site - submit rss and sitemap to se - promo: submit to directories (I'm working on..) are there something elses you can suggest if you don't mind? Thanks in advance.

![]() ![]() | Oh Lord SEO is HUGE, and you are just talking about the SEP Seearch engine positioning aspect ![]() In your case I would look at press releases, and articles on the subgects you arite about. You offer good stuff, so you should shout it from the rooktop. Make a video, stick it on youtube, hey it might go viral ESPECIALLY if it explains stuff that is easy to do but considered hard. IE usee fatastico in C panel, or even a series of CPANEL videos. plae on on youtube then the rest on your site. You should be looking at traffic more than potioning in the search engines.

![]() | For me, build a quality site that has unique content and eye catching design in terms of its physical layout. Your site's reputation depends on accuracy and relevancy to what your site offers. Then do some on and off-page optimization. You can visit this site http://www.seo-solutions.net/ to help you learn more on how you can optimize your site..good luck! |
