Somewhat depends on the purpose, your experience level, you budget etc.

I've not heard of all of them, can someone provide a link to Discuz, phpwind and punBB?

yup depends on its purpose and how much u wanna spend, vbullitin is clearly the best for mods and updates, can be pricey and tricky to use !

If i need some respectful i will use vBulletin, but if the demands are not so high i belive that bbpress can do the job very well.

i use simple machines cause of all the add ons and tinypotal it has. nice forum software and great tech help along with it.
