First Step of SEO

Hello...

Can any body tell me if you have one new site there is no SEO done on it, how you start SEO for that site? From where you start and what step will require accordingly?

Fisrt of all decide upon keywords that you think suitable for your website with respect to your end users.

Then do competitor's analysis against each keyword.

After that decide the densities for your website.

Do on page optimization..i.e; make changes in followings by inserting keywords:

Title
Alt Tag
Meta Tags (Description & keywords)

Heading
Bold

Make your website user frindly and keep in mind the positioning of keywords.

Then after that start building links for your website, that is off-page-optimization.

submit your site in directories and in articles etc.

and most important keep reading forums and you will find alot of help..

I'd just like to add a tip for finding keywords, there are services such as Wordtracker that monitor search terms entered - so while you should definitely start with the keyword / phrases you think are relevant, it can help to verify those thoughts against terms that are actually used.

You can go to freekeywords dot wordtracker dot com and get some results there.

I would optimize the URL too.

for example I would change http://www.mydomain.com/post12233.php to this
http://www.mydomain.com/mars/life-on-mars/

lol i find it amazing how all of you can overlook the most important thing, GOOD QUALITY CONTENT that is the best place to start !

The most important thing is keyword research it is king quenn and the whole royal family in web marketing. EVERYTHING you do depends on getting the KW research right.

You must analyze first the activity of the keyword/s that you're going to use because the your target traffic/visitors depends on it. Use keyword selector tool like Overture

Think of a better keyword that suits your site, then check the search volume and the number of competitors of that keyword...

I'd say the most important is to get a brainwave and find a niche which is later to be filled with exclusive content.

In another board the "experts" are keep saying good original content is the way to go .
From my own experience its the meta tag -keywords and good links.

The meta tag keywords is not even indexed by Google. so it is in effect worthless.
