Hi guys/gals.

Im wondering if any one out there has any sujjestions on how I can get more paying customers? currently im getting at least 1 free listing per day but hardly any are actully paid customers.

My current form of marketing is SEO, Affiliate marketing with ClixGalore.com and also Stickers all over my car. Im ranked high with certin keywords such as:

Australian business directory (page 3 google) out of 9 million

Business Directory (page 5 - google) out of like 90million

Importers and exporters directory (page 3 google)

Web and graphic design directory (page 2 google) out of more than 20million

and a few more such as 'baby and parenting directory', 'pet care directory' and about another 15 keywords. I have a PR2.

Regarding SEO i paid $1500 upfront and now im paying $150 per month but like I said im not getting much conversions and I want to stop it if its only going to keep getting me 'free listings'

As an incentive im also giving away 2 x MOVIE TICKETS with every premium sale and still not getting any coversions.

Please if someone out there could help me or has any sujjestions on what I can do I would really appreciate it.

You have a nice site, good layout, i do have a few questions though, what exactly are you paying $150 a month for ?

Why have u got those links at the bottom of your homepage

No SEO company worth its salt or any contributing site, would put their link on ur homepage ? this has the alarm bells ringing straight away !

So first of all, i would query u paying $150 a month i really doubt you need this, get rid of those links off the homepage if they want to be listed get them to pay like anyone else would do !

Directories are so competative, as im sure you know there are websites that list directories, there are 100s of these links for example http://www.seocompany.ca/directory/web-directories.html

You need to get ur site onto as many as these as you can, as people use these lists as trusted directorys.

im sure u will get the usual posts of submit to blogs and directories blah blah, but really you need to think out of the box, hope this helps a little

It does look like something is wrong with paying $150 a month.

Who is swift? They have 6 links on your homepage. I hope you have been paid for those links.

The site layout is nice from an SEO point of view.

In Google the displayed info is
That's all misleading. The home page says 'Free Business Directory','Free Directory Listings Australia' yet so far as I can tell there is nothing free about it at all.

Actaully, I don't like to break the bad news, but Google's initial info is misleading the number of sites with this term 'Australian business directory' is currently 333.
You can tell by paging forward to page 10, then page 20, then 30, then 34.

swiftmedia are the guys who designed the site for me, eweb is the SEO company... not sure what you mean by paging forwrd 10. but when i googled business directory australia i came up 3 aswell as all the other keywords put here earlier... The reson i left swift up there without paying is becuase they told me they will do ongoing work free for me with aussiepages. eweb well they just put it up there them selves.

Do you's have any adivice on what i can do to increase traffic aswell as conversions. i already lowered my price. i was charging from $49-$149 per year, but now have dropped it to $9.90-$29.90

Your site has few backlinks(sites that link to you). It ranks low.

1) Reduce your $150 a month outgoing, which you've yet to explain to something more normal for a directory like $10-$20 a month which would be for hosting.
2) Remove the word 'Free' from your title text. Your not aiming for free, it's not free and your getting 'free' customers that you don't want.
3) Look at submitting your directory to other directories. Start with DMOZ and other high ranking sites.
4) Consider spending some $$$ on adwords or other traffic generating systems.
5) Close or sell the site if it's not working. Your in a tight market against mainly knowledgeable webmasters and you seemingly have little understanding of how to make a directory work.
6) Advertise your site on forum like this. For example http://talk.iwebtool.com/thread16654.html

G'day.

Can I comment as a directory user, rather than SEO?

When I see "Free Business Directory | Free Directory Listings Australia"... I expect it to be FREE!! Although I understand that this brings people to the site, it brings them with the expectation of a free service... they're not arriving at your site with a credit card in their hand.

I think you need to do more to pursuade people why they should part with their cash. i.e. what is the added value compared to other ways of advertising. The best way in my view is to get actual case studies or endorsements... difficult when you're strating out, I know.

You say 'it works' ... you need to prove this to potential paying customers.

Some not bad advice from above there, I would suggest implimenting some of it, or really its not worth us commentin for the sake of it.

Chart is right, this site doesnt warrent $150 a month, you need to get rid of this overhead, so you can use this money elsewhere

Directories are really hard to make money out of, i had one and promptly got rid of it and it had a higher ranking than urs a pr5, which is what most clueless webmasters (not any reputable webmaster lol )look at im afraid when they buying links on directories.

You could register for adsense, not sure if they will let you in, u might be able to make a bit of money that way towards ur marketing.

Have you thought about adding somthing else to the site ? maybe having the directory as an add on and turning ur site into a blog or somthing ? severe change i know but just an idea ?

As i said before you need to get urself on directory lists, they are downloaded by 100s of people daily, this will get you more links back, more hits and more sales, but takes TIME and a lot of it as you have to persuade people to put u on their list !

thanks for all the input... i will start looking into it today / tomoro and hopefully see what i can do... What do you guys think about ppc?? and also how can i get a higher PR2- honeslty I dont even know how i got a PR2 i just got it some how.
