How do you get listed in dmoz?

How do you get listed in dmoz? I have tried submitting my sites several times and have never succeeded at all. One time When I submitted a .com sites the .biz compettitor was added and that site had less content and not as smart functions as my site.
What are dmoz editors looking for at a site? I have submitted new (not under construction) web sites and old sites with 20,000+ incomming links without any success at all.

To me it looks like it's first prize in a lottery if you site gets listed. Am I wrong?

Agreed. Dmoz editors are ridiculous, they list the link-farms/spam-full0 websites but when it comes to decent websites like most, they decline it. And to top that, Google seems to respect Dmoz listed websites, that means if you dont get listed on Dmoz, you'll find it difficult to get good rankings by Google (not always the case though).

A year ago I tried to apply as an editor for a Swedish category with no editor at all (it was a category in the same subject as I have my Master degree in) and I was declined

Are there any dmoz editors in this forum who can explain how to get listed?

it's really hard to become an editor on DMOZ. ODP look for cultured, well-informed, experienced persons. And this means you have to build up your sentence about yourself as full illustrative. You should apply directory part without editor. Your addition sites (3 item of sites, below the form) must be really GOOD.

How do you get listed? Bring along tons of patience and wait, wait, wait ....
We were eventually listed last week after patiently waiting for 13 months.

I have also tried submitting my sites to DMOZ with no luck... there all excellent quality sites. I see some of the sites in the same categories and there not even in the same league.

I mean seriously what a joke!

I too have tried to get into DMOZ more than once. I've never heard anything back from anybody after I submitted. Not a peep. The first time I tried was three or four years ago I think. I tried again a year or two ago. I've given up. I was apparently wasting my time ...

We have been very lucky our site is listed by DMOZ ... It take a while but keep the description short and don’t over sell.
