Normally its the sheer volume of submissions that they receive. But i would check your submission is correct and in the correct category or you stand no chance.

It depends of site category and editor of that category.
It may take some time (sometimes 6 months or more ...) before your website will show up in the Open Directory Project. However, do not resubmit your website during the waiting period as this can only result in a longer delay or get your website rejected. Be patient and regularly check the status of your submission by doing the search on DMOZ. If your website does not get listed for a long period of time or gets rejected, you can also check on the status of the submission or the reasons for the rejection by contacting the editors for the subcategory that you selected.

Anyone who has a directory will tell you that the levels of rubbish SPAM submissions is mind blowing. Now multiply that 10thousand times, and you will see why.

People don't realise they are spamming that is the saddest part.

eg. say the owner of this forum didn't read the submission guidelines but submitted anyhow. Say he chose a title:~

'the best place for webmaster chat'

Now that is spam. The title SHOULD be 'Iwebtool Talk, a webmaster related chat forum.

It takes JUST AS LONG to deal with a spam submission as it does to review a good one.

If there is no editor in the cat you submit to then the next editor above has to deal with it. so if there are 20 cats below him/her, and there are 5 per day to each, then he/she has to deal with 100 submissions.

THAT is why it takes so long.

DMOZ don't have enough editors, nor so I understand do they like to take on new ones. They have nothing to gain by adding new sites, hence most categories on DMOZ are like the dinosaurs.

How is their recovery from the crash going? Did that halt any progress?

You need to check if the category you are submitting has active volunteer. You need to find a category with active volunteer otherwise nobody will evaluate your site.

It is difficult to get listed in DMOZ maybe because for a large number of site submitted to their directory and some link of them didn't passed their guidelines.

Quite. And if you enter it into a different category it will be rejected anyway!

Guys there is no such thing as a category without an editor. These are myths. ALL category submissions are referred up to the next available editor. I can assure you that at some stage someone will look at your submission. UNLESS it is pitch perfect though, it will be rejected.

It's also the fact that some of them Dmoz editors are site owners and they join the categories that they have a site in just so that they can get their site listed. As they have their site listed, their not going to really want to add your site if it's better. I have been waiting for over 4 years and have never had a site listed yet.
