![]() | Can you believe it Believe it or not, even thieves are already hi-tech these days. Browsing the net and reading through online forums, I came across a startling story about how thieves have found their way to infiltrate the world wide web. I read about a lady who was planning to put up a web page of her own. As the normal process dictates, she first thought of a domain name for her website. She chose her own name and had it checked in CNet Domain Search page for domain registrations and found out that it is very much available. A couple of days later, she checked it again and was shocked to discover that her name is already taken. She found out that her name is already a domain name registered to a firm with the name Chesterton Holdings. Discuss more.....

![]() | Aman, Its not stealing. The registrars usually keep track of what you search... For example, when you input a name if the domain is not registered and registry results in a available state, and if you don't plan to buy for today. This still get recorded in the search history of the domain registrar like (Godaddy, Register.com, Network Solutions etc...) whereever you did the search. There is one more business call domain business, these guys pay the amount to the registries and the get these human typed queries if they found a nice potential name, they may register it. I think thats how the name was lost. A domain name is usally an idea, so if you liked a name and available register it immediately instead of waiting for couple of days. I lost the domain name www.vtrip.com like this, Instead I have www.vtrip.info. If you look at www.vtrip.com's content its a parked domain, I missed this name by a day. So domain business is a hot business. |

![]() | It is not stolen. The domain name is not expensive, if you find some good name, just register it.

![]() ![]() | This is just business THAT is why you should not check availability with a reseller like godaddy namecheap etc. go DIRECT to the registrar I NEVER check uk domains through an register agent I use Nominet. I also only use eurid to check for .eu domains. It would be illegal for these agencies to pass your details down the line. If you are going into business you had better learn to consider damage limitations strategies, and running 'what iff' scenarios for just about EVERYTHING is best practice. ![]()

![]() | This developed into a really interesting thread. I never thought about people accessing my godaddy search queries. I will certainly try nominet for .com ideas from now on! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From what I have heard...Myth or maybe? When you do a search for a domain name, that domain, if not registered, will go directly into the que for domain names to suggest.....If you go to GoDaddy, you will see what I mean....You type in a name, if it isn't available, they will give you some suggestions...Those suggestions are based off of what previous "searchers" were looking for....It might be a myth, but if it isn't , there is nothing illegal about what they are doing...If you wanted the domain name, you should have registered it. |

Yes its not a myth. Its true and it actually enhances the visibility of what they have. If you love a name and you see it free, you register it immediately. There are guys out there think domain names are of pot of gold ... | |
