I've done it all but still traffic is LOW

Hello Everyone!!!

Well, I must be down in the dumps. Seems I have done everything there is to do, articles, blogging, submit to directories, link exchange, and still my traffic is low. I get about 20 to about 40 aday. Some sales, but very few. I just feel there may be something else that may boost me to about a 100 a day or more.

I have noticed that the people that do visit are staying longer and viewing more pages, so there I feel that is an improvement.

Your thoughts and suggestions are DEEPLY appreciated.

Hi Michelle, how long has the site been active for? It does take time to become established, however had you work (and I know how frustrating it is!)

A few suggestions, although there are plenty of people here far far more knowledgable than me...
1) Google Adwords etc. I know we don't like paying for customers, but early on especially, it must be worthwhile. Even if you get sales that just break even on your AdWord costs, every new customer is a marketing opportuninty and if your products & service are good they WILL tell their friends... they might even mention you in a blog, or on a forum and eventually it will start to gain momentum. Be creative with your Adword Targeting! Go for the Long Tail.

2) You might want to do keyword density analysis on your front page? the main text starting "Can you believe that sumer is gone" if friendly for human readers, but maybe not so much for search engines? I would expect to see words like 'gift baskets' 'candy' 'birthday' and 'luxury' in large text at the top of the page! (H1?)
3) Your main images are called things like 'logo' and 'main banner image'. It would be good practice to name these with keyword included. (e.g. 'gift baskets logo'). Not sure how much practical difference this makes, but as their in a prominant position on page it might help with Google's view.

I'd be interested to see other peoples comments.... as I'm pretty much a beginner at this SEO stuff.

Your site quite good for me, you need to improve the overall layout of your site and change the font color and font type. The reason why is less traffic because the site is not attractive and the site is not easy to navigate. If you want to get traffic, create attractive website with a lot of content and promote your site.

Yes, I have had paid adverts as well. So far, in the SE I have gone from being on page 30 to page 8. I have done great in so far as that.

Being too I have found out that its the time of year. I have many competitors, so I have to just keep pluggin away.

As for my age..I am not yet a year old. I will have b-day in Nov.

I would like to add that your website isn't up to scratch yet. I'm sure if you can get someone to design you a up to date layout, you'll get much better response.

Visitors tend to put trust and confidence over something little as website design.

Yes i agree
Also alot of people are linking to your site which is good.
I recommend you submit it to directories that related to your site and submit to most search engines.
Then post in forums that related to your site.
And add more content that will interest people other than shoppers =)

It takes time to build traffic, and it will come if you stay with it! The fact that you are climbing in the Search Engines signals you are on the right course.

Applying the above, and just wait! Things don't happen over a night, but applying all the things above will definitely boost your traffic, and get you returning visitors.

Yes, You seem to be doing all the right things with your SEO. It just really does take time. I have found that if you use Google adwords, you get lots for your money. Even if you adjust your pages to be on as low as 7-12 ranking, you get placed into their content network. This means that your site will show up as sponsored links on other engines like deal time, etc. Also you will show up randomly in "adsense" ads on anyone's site that has an "adsense" ads and posts similar content as you. It has worked pretty well for us.

What are your targetted traffic numbers (How much are you looking for)?

If you want good blog links (to improve SERP, SEO, etc.)you can check out this thread

I've also gotten very high traffic boosts from stumbleupon, but it doesn't always last very long.

I think you on right track. All you have to do now is keep working on your site for SEO, content etc. It takes time. If you can't make it after 18 months then you can say, it failed.

Couple of things you need really

1) Patience lol !

Your blog is a really good idea, If i was you i would incorporate it into ur site (www.lilyputts.com/blog ), rather than have it on a different url (the blogspot url), this will give you a good way to keep adding unique content to your site. You need to goto the advanced section in blogger to do this, and specify ur host details and a url for ur blog.

I dont think you need a banner across the top of ur page to advertise ur blog.

When i open ur site nothing really catches my eye, you need to catch people with somthing straight away, a nice bunch of flowers i dunno, just somthing to make them stop for a second, also try to improve ur site design, try to get a more professional look.

It's all about traffic, it's a competitive market so it seems as I guess there is money to be made and hence the competition.

I think I would be tempted to make some video's of the gifts(how they are put together, packed etc) and put them on youtube. That would be something completely different, you get close to potential customers and re-assure them and also you'll get search engine traffic by adding your site links to your upload video.
