Just curious... I'm shown as a "Junior Member" ... what's the criteria for promotion? Does it happen automatically with time... or number of posts.. or is it down to the whim of the moderators? Will I become a Contributer if I stick with it?

It don't matter none... just wondered!

It's not based on post count, we had one member make Contributor with only 50 posts. I can say that it has a lot to do with post quality. The 50 post member made 50 posts that were so incredible, that we would have just simply been stupid not to make him a contributor. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us.

For an example of the type of posts that I am talking about, view Bagi's posts, just about all of his posts are of a good quality that would lead to becoming a contributor.

Really, it's not a popularity contest, although, you need to gain somebodies attention, either a moderator or a current contributor, by posting great posts.

Also, if you post good posts, but they aren't on topic (webmaster or SEO related), then it won't do you any good, we have a lot of members that make great off topic posts, but what truly helps the forum are on topic posts or suggestions.

Another way to make contributor is by finding more spam than the moderators find, and reporting it. I have noticed a few members that do quite well finding lots of spam.

Im hoping to just get 5 posts now to advertise my site but getting to 10 allows it to be put up for review. I like the system u guys have put in place here makes alot of sense.

how does one become a moderator, is that something the owners of this site recruit people for or something else?

Moderator position is usually handed out to members that show a great deal of loyalty to this forum.....Not necessarily to this forum alone....

For instance, Bagi was made moderator because he is incredibly intelligent and even more so, dedicated to this forum. Whereas, OWG was made moderator because he is one of the most knowledgeable members that we have, and he remains active, although he engages ruthlessly in other forum activities...

As for myself, I was actually never made moderator, I just hacked into the site, and made myself moderator....Nobody ever said anything, so it stuck....

Just kidding...I was made a moderator because I contributed to the forum and I was/am very dedicated to this place.

To become a moderator here, it really takes a lot....Contributor is what most people should aim for..Once you acheive that status, then start thinking about moderator status.
