I am not about not take away the importance of good SEO, nor saying dont bother BUT.....

Do consider also Networking. In case there is another meaning to the term i use let me expalin.

I have a very sucsessful hosting site(i wont plug it here) which has the some of the worst examples of SEO you can possibly find. Reason? I just havnt bothered nor had the time.
In the beginning i did spend hours trying to improve the SEO, with very little sucsess, as firstly I was new to it all and secondly the market is HUGE for this product.
So I took some advice and began what i term Networking.
I began to talk to local companies, and some internet ones, not about hosting but general business ideas, issues etc.We shared ideas and helped each other.I didnt mention at that point about hosting. We gained a good relationship.
When the time was right or it was mentioned I "plugged" my hosting company.
Because of the confidence peolple had in me they were happy to buy.
When they were happy with my hosting if they were asked by others who to choose they recommended my company...and so on.

So I suppopse what i am saying is , dont soley reply on SEO to make your site sucsessful, find other avenues.

There is a saying that goes " don't put all your eggs in one basket" it is 100% correct. you should consider online offline sybiosis in your marketing.

Before I began building sites, I did construction work, kitchens, bath remodels, tile floors, etc...I met a 15 year old neighborhood kid that was pretty impressed with the work I was doing on a house that I bought. He told his dad, and his dad hired me. His dad told some friends of his, and they hired me to do a couple of tile floors and some minor repairs.....2 years later, that one line of work finally ran out. That's what networking means to me, slightly different context. Do what needs to be done everytime, and the word about you will spread to more and more people. I think that the same applies in every business model.
