Default Bring back post count for General Talk

I vote that the post count be re instated for generall talk.
There are alot of members who contribute and make this forum as sucsessful as it is. Now it my be an ego thing but members like to see post counts going up!
I am aware that rubbish posts are trying to be avoided by doing this, but it seems like more of a penalty to genuine supportive members.
I am aware i will get shot down in flames for this with reasons why its done from admin etc, but this is just my opinion and i am sure others feel the same!

There i said it!!!

It is a contentious issue sin't it. It is also sad that rep given in the general forum doesn't count (as far as I know it is normally the case that if post count is turned off then rep is also turned off).

I don't mind it the way it is actually (I like being controversial!).

I think that it's something that can be considered. As far as the reps go, it doesn't matter where they are given, they will always add to your rep total. The problem with the rep system is that everyone is started off with 0 voting power points, and it doesn't go up until they have reached 50 points worth of rep, and even then, it only goes up to 1. I think my voting power is 8 or 9, so I would have to give out 7 reps to one persone before they saw a 1 point vote power rise.

I added a poll

I have also made the posts count in that forum until voting has finished....So now posts in the General talk forum will be counted. So get to voting.

Not sure. Why do some forums not count posts?

As far as I am aware it is to stop those who were just posting away like mad with little if any usefull content or contribution, just to get a high post count. This can prove derogatry to the forum in many ways.
Although the occasional idle chat is good for morale too much is not good.

Yes, exactly what Midi said. We got to a point in early summer where there was little conversation about Webmaster related subjects, and much conversation that was off topic. So to curb this, we stopped counting posts in the General talk forums. Another big issue was a few users would come into the forum and post 40 or 50 introductory posts, and nothing else. So we discontinued post counts in the introduction forum. We have since turned post counts back on in the introduction forum, because no one was saying hello to the new members. We are currently working on a new system where "Mad Posters" will be silenced as opposed to making the entire forum suffer.
