![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was sitting back the other day thinking and realized a little something. The main purpose of this board is to learn about -Seo- "Search Engine Optimization" in other words getting your site seen so it will be a success. I see people giving advice to others and wonder why? Look at the people at this board that are giving advise and then look at their "website(s)" they seem to know the answer to everything and tell you when your wrong and tell you what you should do. When you do review their website(s) you will see that their not a success. paste their keyword phrases and see. I just don't see why people give advise and act like they know everything. when a user comes in here with a high traffic site then i will consider taking advice from them. I don't see a user here with that sort of success. www.rateanddateonline.com is my best work and its nothing to be proud of in the time spam i have had it. Anyone see where im coming from? So the question is what do you really know about SEO and what can you share if you don't have a successfully site?

![]() | hi there Yeah i do see your point, i also check peoples sites out om signitures usually, from the people who claim to know all, and very often their sites are complete rubbish lol, so i defo see where you are coming from. Althought its difficult to define a successful site and i know only the basics of SEO, i think some people just answer questions when they have no idea what they are talking about somtimes. Woc |

![]() ![]() | How can you define a successful site without seeing the webstats? I have seen sites that ae ABSOLUTE rubbish, but are making a lot of money. Why do people give advice? Personally I do it because I enjoy the break away from working every 20 minutes or so when I get a bit glazed. I have a rugby forum I spend time at chatting about rugby, and I have some forums that I moderate on and many I post on. I know it might seem an alien concept to some, but SOME people enjoy helping others.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think that the best thing about the forum is that while it is true, very few know much, and most know little, is that for those who know nothing, this is a great place to start learning. It's where I got my start, though I'm still a long shot from even making a living on the internet, I know enough to help me make a living. I have a few sites that are hobby sites that make nothing, but I would consider them somewhat successful, especially amongst competitive sites. I think that that is the key to success, for some it may be money, for others it might simply be rankings. Another reason to look for the help of others is because (and this is very true) sometimes you find things you might have otherwise missed if you hadn't asked. Some people have ideas and thoughts, and if I were to ask for those ideas and thoughts, then I might find something useful in the response. Did that make sense, or did I ramble a bit too much? |

![]() ![]() | JJ, you make a good note there, it is NOT all about the money. I know it is hard for some to believe and I wish there was some way to prove it to the cynics. For some it is more about helping out and enjoyment than it is the money.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think that the success is a very relative thing. Nowadays my best website has about 50 unique visitors daily. Despite of this redicoulus number i think it is a successful project since i still remember how hard the start was. I have no such traffic as Amazon or the other giant website has, but i tried many techniques to attract more visitors (good and bad things) during the last year. I suppose that sharing the lessons of year long online "carrier" may be beneficial for those who starts right now. Finally i would say that i learned a lot of things from forum interactions with smarter girls and guys so the reason for the existence is given in my point of view.

![]() | If people have something to give to the community that they think would be beneficial - then they would contribute. Why would somebody make some rubbish up - then to be told be some other experienced member that you are wrong to then make yourself look like a fool. I agree that success is relative and you dont have to own a succesfull website to prove you know how seo works.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My opinion is.. Yes I agree it may seem strange to accept advice from those who you perceive to have little if any experience in web developent in whatever area. But what you must remember is that we all have little snippets of infornation that we pick up along the way, when the time comes the pleasure it is to be able to share that knowledge instead of always asking is great. And yes i speak from personal experience, though i am sure i am not alone. But then we have the case of the "expert", should we accept their advice without question? In some cases yes as the answer is logical but there are areas where i have disagreed and gone my own way and things have worked out as i planned.Though this can be a risky business! Overall we, regardless of levels of expertises, have decided to join and become involved in a community and as such we should do so. Accept the fact that others are wanting to help as well as just taking advice, its your choice wether to accept it or not,or indeed disagree as open discussion over different views rarely happens either. I for one am gratefull for being able to give help where i have been able, and gratefull to have received so much help from those who have chosen to give it. |

![]() | Perosonally I have received some great tips on SEO and on improving my website from this forum. I think that even the beginners who contribute on this forum have valid opinions and it is up to the reader to filter out what they do and do not apply to their site design. One major appeal of the iWebtool forums is that the site is not all about generating revenue, the content is useful and I will continue visiting whenever I get time. Hopefully that condensed some of the steam? |

![]() ![]() | EVERYONE's view is valid, from first post of a newbie to the game, to the expert posts made by others. I have always worked on the premise that every day is a school day online nd the day I stop learning is the day after I die!
