don't buy hits, they will be a waste of money. I would nvest in pay par click short term, and organic SEO long term.

You can gain traffic through forums, article submission, blogging , link exchange and social bookmarking site. If you have blog, you can add adsense , adsense alternative and affiliate blog program.

That is correct, use free promotion methods first and see how that turns out. They typically require a bit of time to invest but they result in free targeted traffic.

Oh and byt the way, if you are running adsense on your site NEVER buy traffic as it will likely get your account banned!

If want quick hits and visits for your websites, I also recommend PPC Google Adwords.

And if you can wait, do SEO....

There is a lot of ways on which you can build traffic for a site. It is important to have a quality content that is effective to users.

I agree and that can get you banned if you are using a publisher of PPC ads such as Google Adsense.
Best thing to do is to use stumbleupon and/or write articles and submit them to digg or reddit.
