Is that kind of backlinks a bonus for my site?

I have always kept in mind that backlinks can speed up the search engine index rate and improve my site PR. So I have tried the link exchange program.

But I found that many websites, which want to exchange links with my site, always have "links" category. And their category contains MANY other website links, while my site--http://www.sharewaredown.com does not have that kind of "links" category.

Originally, I wanted to exchange links with other sites, and plan to put their links on my homepage. But it seems it is impossible for the other party to display my site on their homepage. So my questions are:

1 If I exchange the links with those websites that will put my site link in their "links" category, is that kind of backlinks a bonus for my site? Or is it as effective as that exchange that put my site link in their homepage?

2 For the fact that my website doesn't have a "links" category, is it necessary for me to establish one?

3 If I establish a "links" directory and add more links to it, will this benefit my website PR and traffic?

Linda, about a year ago i also participated in link exchanges and hardly had any positive effect on my rankings. I placed the links to well structured pages, while my links were placed to linkfarms. If a page contains more than hundred irrelevant link at a single given page it will hardly pass forward any relevance or pagerank, so i gave it up. I suggest you to rather participate in forums like iWebtool, since you may find here relevant link exchange possibilities, which will really help to achieve better rankings.

I agree with Bagi, only I wouldn't participate in a link exchange if the link weren't on a first or second level page, and if the page has more than 20 or 25 interal and external links. You do not need to have a links page, in fact, a links page would be a PR leaker in most cases, so I would suggest against it, unless you plan to put only top quality sites that you approve of on that page.

Why are you laughing at Bagi's post snowgirl, I thought that the advice he gave was quite spot on, and honest and obviously Bagi has quite a bit of experience?

Links pages (unless they are structured and placed into topics making them a directory), are getting less and less use by the day.

Reciprocal Links could have a small effect in your site. Its better to have one-way links...

I tend to agree with Aira - I have used these so called link exchanges way back in the past and saw no improvement.

however today while consecrating on quality 1 way links i have jumped up in serps to #1 in google for my wanted keywords

well Reciprocal Links "Exchanges" or Reciprocal Link programs usually dont do much for ur site and can actually hurt it,however Human done Reciprocal Links
with quality sites does help although from my experience not as much as 1 way links

ANY link exchange that APPEARS to be an exchange is worthless. Reciprocal links however are ABSOLUTELY not worthless IF DONE PROPERLY!

A link between sites link pages to the others homepage is a waste of time, so can anyone tell me why? Or if you disagree that reciprocals are wothwhile then explain WHY you think they are worthless.

I am not being confrontational here I just want you all to progress your thinking with regard link building and SEO, because all that seems to happen here is that people simply post their thoughts with little or no explanation, which tells me that they are simply repeating what they have read elsewhere.

UNDERSTANDING is what a forum is all about, and people posting opposing views will not do that.

So c'mon guys fess up and say WHY you think what you have posted.

well i do have an idea and i must say that its just that an "idia" i have no clue if it holds any truth..

Say site A links to my site = 1way link

however say that link is located on a deep or other sub page eather way its a high PR page.

if you were to link to that page on ur site from a links page or other sub page on ur site u may help that backlink to your site be indexed and noticed faster??????

lol i have no idea if this is correct but i noticed that i personally have some links that have been on some sites for some time and were not being noticed by SE's problobly for multiple reasons like , that perticular site doesnt get spiderd as much or somthin

however when linking to them from my site which gets spiderd a couple times a day i noticed they were showing up in SE's faster than if i just let them eventually find them...

like i said i dono if that y or not ... just brain storming..

Iv also noticed that if u have a link within a blog Archive , some when iv cheked have a sitemap telling google only to follow to archive every 6 month or so ...

so possibly by linking to that perticular page with ur link will bypass that and have it indexed sooner ..

im probly talking outa my blow hol lol

is there any truth there ?
