Key Word Problem

I was going forward with google and yahoo but something has changed and now I'm going backwards. I've tried to do all the things that have been suggested but it's not working. Any advice?

Hi Jackson, you didn't reveal what you have done before but i would suggest you to place the following two codes into the .hataccess.

Code:

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
# index.html to /
RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /.*index\.html\ HTTP/
RewriteRule ^(.*)index\.html$ /$1 [R=301,L]

this will redirect the index.html location to the domain.

This will redirect the inconing links pointing to the non www version of your domain to the www version.
This seems to be necessary since your backlinks are divided and search engines don't know that they are the same website unless you let them know. Returning to the backlinks when i ran a backlinkcheck at Yahoo! Site Explorer i recognised the main problem. You need to increase the link popularity for the desired keyphrases by gathering links from relevant websites using the keyphrases as anchor text.

Should I change the form southpadreislandmusic.com to www.southpadreislandmusic.com?

You need to change it to www version and used keywords as your domain name. Just like if you used keyword island music include it in your domain name. The title with largest keyword density average of all the page element evaluated for Google and Yahoo. Keyword density is about 2-4% and prominence is 70 to 80%.
Another Google you need to increase the link popularity or get quality backlinks while Yahoo is more focused on content.

How do I change to the WWW version? I think that's what happened. I changed my sitemap from southpadreislandmusic.com to www. and didn't the sitemap. my server does not allow use of .htaccess files. I'm taking a beating here.

Tell Google which to use in the webmaster tools. http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Surprised you got traffic before, as the site has few backlinks. What term did you used to be listed high for?

I don't think multiple domain is 'Jackson' issue however.

I am having a similar problem with Google recognizing my backlinks. Yahoo shows so many more backlinks that Google and I am always submitting to directories and trading three-way links.
Would you let me know the tool that you use to diagnose this problem?

MDurkee, i think you should only the Yahoo! Site Explorer in order to check your backlinks. There is one more tool, which you may find useful. The backlinkwatch application pick the PR and the anchor text from your backlinks and list them.

Yes, the link: command has always returned a small fraction of the backlinks that Google knows about, mainly for historical reasons (e.g. limited disk space on the machines that served up “link:” data).

That is a cool tool. So is this to say that the re-direct that is on my site is search engine friendly? Also, doesn't Google rank you based on popularity? If they don't see the backlinks like Yahoo does, how can I re-work things so that they do? Does it matter in the big scheme of things or not?

Google DO see backlinks like Yahoo! they just don't SHOW them to you.

Yahoo places more weight on on page stuff, but is FAR better at picking up un natural link patterns like triangular (3way) linking etc.
