![]() | Now that my site is starting to get a little traffic, I had a few primary concerns in dealing with the comment system, as I can use it as a good way to get feedback (Not sure if this right category, or where else it would go): 1. Is it courteous to respond to most comments? (Especially for a younger site like mine, and compliments). 2. What to do about negative comments and spam? (I don’t want to throw my weight around, but there are always people that insult my posts, write worthless comments, etc. But then again they still took the time to respond to it.) 3. How to deal with managing comments, since I may receive tons of comments, it’ll be harder and harder to keep up with them all.

![]() | responding to comments is very good to do. if the commenter leaves a URL and is a blogger, then you will want to comment on their site also (it builds your link) Spam, get rid of it. Negative comments... I'd get rid of it if it was hateful. just glance over your comments, maybe add an auto approve system for authors of comments who have been leaving good comments

![]() ![]() | I think responding to comments is a good way, it shows that you are a active webmaster, and eager to improve the blog and make it bigger, and better. I'd suggest you set the comment options at 'Require admin approval', because if you however disable this option, you will get tons of spam, and comments nobody like to read. 3rd question, my answer will be pretty sure, who said being a Webmaster is a easy job? Websites do require a whole bunch of administration, but trust me the work you do for your web site pays back, if you are a serious webmaster. Thanks, Meti

![]() | Thanks, I may need to break down my first question, (in case it wasn’t very clear) with is it better to respond to the comments right on my own blog? (rather than check out other blogs and commenting on them (which I'll still do)) Quote:
How many would this be for a good number? And could it depend on the quality of the comment? Quote:
If I integrate this into the other idea (auto approve system), is it still a good idea to post the negative comments? (Because like I said, although it is my site, I don’t want it to be an uninviting place to visit and give feedback, while keeping it professional and fun)

![]() ![]() | Well if you integrated that feature, it would be a good idea I guess. Meti

![]() | I respond to people that comment on my blog. I myself think its terrible that we get so automated that we use automated answers and emails to answer people back. I try to personalize my site as well as my blog and thank the people for dropping by. I hope this helps toward an answer. Michele lilyputtshomedecor.com backyardfancy.com

Do you do that right on your own blog, such as right below where they comment on one of your own posts?

![]() | Well, if you have the time and are able to answer the replies, well, it's really great because you would be interacting with your visitors feedback and it's a great reason for them to come back and read posts on your blog again. |

![]() | I think blogging is a great way to establish a requently updated prescence on search engines with lots of keyword rich backlinks but they do take alot of upkeep and have to be checked regularly for spam etc. |

![]() | I think you should try to respond to most of the comments now, if not to all. That's part of social networking, you may find long-term partners for link exchanges. Later on, when the number of comments grows, you may need friend's help to do it, i'd stay away from autoresponds. |
