Then the whole question sounds somehow contradictory, as you can't pay little for really great support, as to be great staff has to be well-trained and paying peanuts to your staff, you will end up hiring monkeys. Anyway, nowadays in the hosting industry the price of the decent shared plan is around $7-15. I was lucky to get a package plan from onthespothosting.net at $7 and get ther phone/ticket support I find satisfying my needs. | |

![]() | Depends what you are selling. If what you are selling is commonplace, and there are many supply sources, then a large part of the market will be price sensitive. Particularly is this true if the product is at a high absolute purchase price (petrol) but not so true if it is a low purchase price (ball point pens). Even in a generally price sensitive market not everyone will buy automatically at the lowest price. You can often differentiate with service quality provided that you prove it in some way, and usually a significant proportion of the market will move your way. (12 hour deliveries versus 24 hour versus next Tuesday) Having sold with satisfaction to the customer before is a key differentiating aspect of your service, which will gain you a slightly better price from past customers in most markets. It may not be fair, but it is business. With widely differentiating products, price is generally insignificant. Product performance, brand reputation and service back up is critical. (wrist watches) What is not often realised is that in these markets there is often/usually what is known as an inverse demand curve at the bottom price level. i.e. if suppliers could find a way of raising their prices, then their total sales will increase! To do this, they need to search for something unique in their sales offering, which at least some people in the market want. Many careers have foundered on the notion that sales will go up if only we lower the price. This strategy is often followed much later by the tactic called looking in the Daily Telegraph/Sunday Times job ads.
