Default Dreamweaver Learning Curve?!

A question for the Dreamweaver users;

How long would it take to become proficient in using Dreamweaver???

I am a long term Frontpage user with a decent knowledge of html & php coding but have relied heavily on modified Frontpage templates.

I am interested in starting a fresh with Dreamweaver......

I began my web design with dreamweaver. Now i think it is the worst program you could possibly use. It makes you lazy and spits out too much clunky unecessary code in tables.

My advice to you is to use notepad and hardcode using w3c tutorials. w3c.com
This way you are learning correct, valid code and using css(cascading style sheets) instead of tables.

What version are you using? Dreamweaver code now is very clean, and you can at the click of a mouse button, change your design to table less.

If you are going to DW, I would recommend you view as many dreamweaver videos as possible. They are available free on the website.

I've been using dreamweaver for a long time now. It's much better than Frontpage, imo.

Thanks for all the replies, I will probably install DW on my next laptop and start getting used to it. I would also like to get familiar with flash as well so that's probably the right way to go, although SEO seems all about text content.

Flash elements within a html coded page are fine, you can also add the text into the noscript tag. Just don't place important text in there or links (unless you have the links in the noscript that is)

I agree...I started on Dreamweaver version 2 a billion years ago. After a couple years I just got tired of cleaning up the code. I still have the Macromedia (now Adobe) suite but I rarely use it for any html or css. I prefer basic text editor.

The learning curve for DW isn't too bad. For a WYSIWYG it's the best available.
