![]() | My listing shown at the bottom of this list (Google search term 'disability directory') has a great deal more links than most here, especially the top three. First place has less than 1500 backlinks (mine has 12000+ ) same PR Second has under 1000 Backlings and a PR3 (one less than mine) Third has less than 200 Backlinks and a PR of 2 Forth has a bigger PR (5) and a great deal more links Any idea what I can do to move mine up? its been stuck at 5th for about a month now, changed title + descriptions etc. Any advice very welcome. P.S have removed the www from each so not to make things worse Quote:

![]() | From Google on my end, you're at #3: Quote:
I think that Google places more weight on the value of an incoming link (based on how Google value's things) than the total number of incoming links, Yahoo is more well known (at least it used to be) for weighing more heavily in their rankings consideration the total number of incoming links, regardless of relevance, age, etc. Right off, I can't see any huge issues, and not much that you can do about anyway simply because of the type of website that you have. I'm mainly referring to content & some internal navigation (more links w/ varied anchor text to your main page). Personally, I would study the incoming links for your competitors, the domains age, pagerank, the anchor text used to link to your competitors websites. . . Then I would study the "on page" factors of your competitors websites; page titles, keyword usage, internal link structure (are they using keyword focused anchor text within their internal linking structure, for instance), etc. Once you've done the research, do what your competition is doing, only better. Maybe it's not so much that you're doing something "wrong", maybe it's that you're not doing enough of the right thing. Maybe your domain hasn't "aged" enough for Google, maybe your incoming links aren't helping you too much because they are low quality. . . I guess this didn't really tell you what you're doing wrong, but hopefully it'll give you an idea or two so that you can improve where you're at.

![]() | Thanks for the time taken whooligan Overall my inbound links are far higher in quality than most there, I have many big government sites linking to ableize including the Disability Rights Commission and many other .gov sites, links range from the obvious 0 up to 6 in PR also I have a greater amount of Google links. ![]() | Having links from authority type websites should help considerably for improving your rankings in Google. I guess it could be that your domain is too "young", but personally I feel it might be something else, though I'm not sure what that is. Something I just thought of - it appears that your competitors (that you listed) have more focused page titles (from what I see). If you're going after 'Disability Directory', then this phrase should be at the front of your title (which it is), but your title has several keywords in it. . .I don't know if that's hindering you at all (or even helping), but as a general rule the title should be focused on 2 or at most 3 keywords/phrases and relevant with the pages content; with the most important keyword/phrase being at the beginning of the title. I do personally think that focusing on too many keywords in your title tag can be a mistake, but that's a personal take on it. As far as content & internal navigation are concerned, I was speaking of written content; explanations, articles, definitions, etc: whatever would be suited for your website. However, I don't think that your site was designed to hold a 500 word article, I think that would somehow detract from the overall feel. Internal navigation was basically the links & anchor text used within written content that pointed at your main page. Right now, you have one anchor text pointing to your main page (the one you're trying to improve ranking for) & it's the exact same as your title. Optimally, you should vary anchor text used for links in your internal link structure as well, at least that's how I do it & it works for me. Of course, this would be much harder to do with your type of website. SEO is not necessarily my forte; while I am constantly knee deep in it for my own websites, but I am not privy to "SEO insider information" - so somebody that does SEO for a living (and knows what they're doing) should be able to give you more insight into this than I can.

![]() | A lot of the anchor text on your incoming links are as such, ableize, UK etc. The ones that do use the term Disability Directory appear to be paid links or are in alt tags via an image and do not come from a page which the content is about the disabled (may not be considered from a relevant source). Also, take your link from the PR-6 page about Katrina, there are a bunch of links on the page each one soaking up the available link juice. I do also agree you may be deluting your keywords by repeating it in the title, if Disability Directory is the main term you seek then provide it center stage in the most important on-page tool you have, the title. For other words/phrases you wish to target on the page use the h1, h2 <strong tags. |

![]() | Google can take up to 6 month to show page ranks. If you want to know how the Googles page rank system works check out http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/

![]() | Thanks, i will do this in stages to see results at an individual change level, have changed the title to 'UK Disability & Disabled Needs Directory' and see what that does then adjust or move on to the next. You do need to look deeper to find the many links in other disability related sites that contain good anchor text, many early ones dont, i have very few actual paid links by the way (total paid out being about £20.00) Currently have 12500.00 in total with 111 google showing but expecting this to change greatly at the next G update. Not sure how the esyndicat template work with 'For other words/phrases you wish to target on the page use the h1, h2 <strong tags.' Perhaps somebody could tell me a bit more about this and the benifits? Again thanks. |

If you look at your web site like a book. The main page is the title and some basic information about what to expect. Each page of the site is a chapter in the book, each chapter has a unique title and its own portion of the overall book. The h tags are to define portions of the chapter which need its own title - h1 tag is the visitors view of the chapter title (don't make it the same wording as the page title but similar, capture keyphrases people use in search - the title is the main keyphrase, h1 a variant of that). The h2 are secondary headings and h3 etc are secondary to parent. Only use one h1 per page. The number of h2 etc is content driven. WRITE YOUR CONTENT FOR THE VISITOR not the search engines! The h tags and bold, strong lend a certian priority to the content (how much so is up for debate). | |
