If you do eventually use PHP, please make sure your PHP Coding works for PHP 5. PHP 4 is just old now and is being phased out next year

Sorry, but I don't see how, assuming you did not know the answer, that you would have to search because you considered it to be inadequate. ALL dynamic code, be it asp, coldfusion php etc are server side, you asked specifically about php over html.

BUT and here is the thing (as I am sure you know from your search ) if you write plain html and simply change the extension to php, then the code is 100% available as it is the same code with no dynamic areas.

ONLY dynamic code that pulls headers, footers and other information is going to be hidden. AND, it is possible to disassemble dynamic code anyhow.

Not sure where you are getting the information about protecting your code being the most important reason for using php, but it is wrong.

HTML can be protected by simple encryption or code scramblers.

Without doubt the MAIN benefit is that php is dynamic while HTML is pretty much static.
