Default Need some honest opinions!

Alright, I have just finished working on my comparison shopping site that uses shopping.com's API. I need some honest reviews before I start marketing it hard to see what needs to be changed about it. Thanks for your reviews in advance!

I'm sure that this is a serious project so firstly i would like to share my suggestion about the layout. If i were you i would move the magnifying glass next to the header image or eliminate it in order to lift the content a little higher. The coloured tab menu navigation is really nice and youngish but this is almost the only coloured part of the page. In my opinion the sidebar with the red font color was not the best choose it is hard to read for me. The home navigation link should point to the domain not the default.aspx page. And there is one more very important thing. I guess that the online shopping is a very competetive market so you need to make possible that the search engines recognise the keywords in the URL therefore i suggest you to use only hypens.

Thank you for the great advice. I was only using the magnifying glass as a place holder, I will be putting top products there! I have been messing with colors for a while in regards to the links, I am going to go lighter. Thanks!

Not bad. I like blue colour templates.

Too much unnecessary space on the top. People can come to shop everyday, and the need to scroll will annoy them quickly.

Well, with access to over 6 billion products, there is going to be a need to scroll no matter how you slice it. How would you fix the situation?

Lets take my AdSense placement testing as an example.

When a person comes to the site and the actual content they have searched for is a minor scroll down and I have ads convenantly placed in plain view my ctr approaches 15%. If I place the ad below or beside the content (content being in plain view when the page opens my ctr drops to 1-2%. What you are selling, IMO, must be in plain view when the page opens, it must grab the attention of the visitor and I think you have about 4 seconds to do it. Content placement and the organization of the content is just as important as the actual content itself.

This is not to say only have ads showing on the page - that will only lead to .01 ctr and all your visitors hitting the back button to never return.

I understand that, but my income is not from the Adsense, it is from the products and you can see those products when you come to the site. They take up the most real estate. Where else can I put them in order to let people see them. They are already in the center of the page, you know what I mean! Thanks for all the reviews!

Looks very professional. I would try perhaps the logo on the left, maybe it'll look better (usually, larger sites keep their logo to the left, use eBay as an example).

I do not sell the products though, it is a shopping comparison site! Thank you for your input and thank everyone else for their reviews!
