Just to add to what the warden said, you need to need to install google tool bar in your browser to see PR of websites you visit.
You can download it from here: toolbar.google.com/

Boys and girls, the one thing I've learned from this forum, over and over again, is that Pr refers to the Page ranking and is not a Site ranking.

I know it sounds pedantic, but it has been very important for me to understand that. I now treat every page as a "site" in its own right needing its own Seo and backlinks.

I don't think that traffic has anything to do with it - it is just about backlinks.

You need them to be from high pr quality pages themselves, if possible. A pr 3 link is worth to you five times more than a pr 2 page link. They also need to be from sites which have some relevance to your own topic and not just from any old site.

It is good if you are described in the other site to include your critical keywords. Known as anchor text.

It is slightly better if they are one-way links and not reciprocal links - though reciprocal links are not bad.

It is also good if you have links to some of your inner pages as well as your index page.

They must not be from a link farm of any kind - Lady Google will spot it and get narky about it.

John

One way links from relevant pages are MUCH better than reciprocals.

Yes, forum signatures (not from all forums though) are usually counted as backlink. I think signature links from this forum counts as backlinks

If I'm not mistaken, links from the forum pages to your site, will be "devalued" compared to the links from other sites.

page rank is googles measure of a pages importance.

it is based on the backlinks to that page. not traffic or content related.

page rank updates all the time, every day. however, google only exports the sites page rank to the google toolbar every 3 months. so they toolbar Pagerank you see is actually outdated.
