Keep in mind too, a supplemental page of today may be a high PR page someday. Get your links from relevent sites/pages.

Advertisers that are going to pay the good money are going to be more worried about the traffic coming to the site.

Old Welsh, I fully accept what you say - you have said it before elsewhere - but I've got a query. You did say recently in another post that anchor text linked within body copy was worth its weight in gold, and there is an advantage to the site doing the linking as well. I'm not sure I've got this totally right.

In my new site, I've got body copy on each page, obviously, and on most pages I've provided links within that copy to other sites. E.g if a word such as "Edinburgh" appears in the text then I've linked to one of the Edinburgh sites. There are maybe six or seven links per page in this way.

I don't have to link to any of these other sites at all. I'm doing it because it might help visitors, but in particular because you made the suggestion that it might help my Seo. After all, Lady Google might be willing to accept that I'm helping visitors, too.

I'm not hung up about pr - it is the Seo work I want to get right. Have I got this right and does it sit easily with the comments about having fewer outbound links on the page?

Pagerank is a tricky one.. it sometimes can be easy to get but also difficult.. just keep increasing your backlinks and ect..

Put the dunces hat back in the cupboard then

If your pages are constructed properly and the topic is tight, then linking out to on topic pages with the correct anchor text will help you a lot.

Hard to believe but I have been telling people this for at least 4 years

BUT because some other people were saying that your outbounds don't matter (other than linking to bad neighbourhoods), not many listened

Yeah ,how to get high pagerank is a different story of getting good SERPS.
I really like good SERPS and traffic for my sites .
Somebody like good PR for link trading.
How to increase PR in the rank of 2-5 is easy ,in that pagerank chart just set the target PR ,calculate the links and PR you need.
select the link from the page that has less outbound links
and relevant to your site (which ,for my opinion is from paid links mostly ).The more you get links and less outbound links from your site,the more the PR will be. If you have more $$ ,try to buy footer links in forums sites or blogs from different IP.Forum signatures is also a good idea to get link (but all from one site is less powerful unless you can jump around from board to board for posting).
For PR more than 6 is quite hard and need more high PR link in ,the best is to try hard to make your site so special ,find niche market for it,or set yourself a policy in some special thing ,like programming(eg. wordpress,phpbb,phpld),portals ,social bookmark (eg. digg,facebook),forums(webmasterworld,IWT,DP,sitepo ints etc.),official site for sports ,official site for your hometown ,or your country etc.
(but you know ,become the policy site is not easy,good manner,promotion,knowledge ,manpower and good contents are keys of it)
