Here are a few tips that could help make your site more attractive:
1. You should find a nice template for your directory, you did not bother to change the default theme that comes with eSyndicat. To me, this sort of mean a lazy directory with not bright future as the owner cannot even bother to change the default theme.
2. Give it more exposure like you are doing, I saw you post at webmaster forum, that is good, go to more forums and promote it
3. Exchange site wide links with other directory owners
4. In your approval/Reject message, recommend other directories in exchange for other directories recommending your site.

promote your directory...and don't be afraid to ask people to submit their link...send webmasters e-mails
you can also ask webmasters that you understand that they don't have the time to send in their own link and ask if it is ok for you to send in their link for them...

my top site is very similar to a directory, people don't find you at first, you must go where the people are. I had to write to about 100 webmasters get around 20 webmasters to sign up. And they signed up with the first 2 and 3 days that I e-mailed them and established my site. After that, people just came and signed up themselves, now I have around 100+ members

Yes, First thing first once you start ANY site.. You need to go to the webmasters and users.. dont just wait and hope they come to you.. so go to any and ALL webmaster sites/forum.. and advertise your directory
