My experience = door-knocking is the most effective way, check it out -
At the same time you can visit lots of foreign cities and wonderful countries.
But very, very important don't forget to give out your business card.

door knocking?
you may be able to get alot of people from doorknocking or making flyers and deliverring them but it would take alot of time..
i would have to say search engines... since its pretty easy to get alot of traffic from them

Easy? Understated I think. For some people, yeah, it comes naturally, and while I admit doing SEO DURING construction instead of revising after is easier and more effective, not everybody can do it that way... lol - it also takes a lot of time to get effective listings in search engines.

surely it takes less time and is 10000% times more effective than knocking on doors..
100 doors = 100 people
only 50 might have access to net at home
out of those 50 .. 10 might actually remember to visit the site

i could get 10 visits to iwebtool directory for posting a link here in this post!

I also was visiting some grandmothers, u know how they are, they are going to tell everybody about my homepage - even when they go to the store or when they go to the doctor - so this is 100% no better way to promote your site - times have changed - forget about seo and google. You will remenber this lines in 39 years

word of mouth is great. especcially on the net. if you create a good site with good content, and i mean GOOD content not just throwing 50,000 articles into a site or xml feeds(who cares about the design, site content should come first ) people will remember it and tell others becuase it helped them in some way..

just like you may have told someone google adsense is great..
its how google,yahoo,msn,hotmail,ebay..... etc all got to be so big
SEO is easy once you get the hang of it, learn by doing!
just changing things like the title of the pages can make a HUGE difference.. and now with things like directories its made it even easyer to get one way backlinks,

now with a site like yours.. "second hand cars germany" that would be a site that would be more succesfull in promoting by door to door or your grandmother telling the world when she goes to bingo or whatever than a site such as iwebtool would be since they are part of your targetted audience (the public in your part of germany)

Hi there,

Personally I find the best way to promote a site is through;

Forums
Google AdWords
Search Engines
Word of Mouth
Signatures at the Bottom of E-mails
Directories
etc

Try some of the above out ^, I have found all of them definitely worth the time. Within no time you get thousands of extra hits your were never getting before.

I have just opened a very cheap pixel site, why not advertise via there; http://www.taiads.co.uk/.

search engine on your site
free email script on your site
logo creator on your site
cpanel login on your site
gmail login on your site
PUt a script that actually helps the visitor so they will bookmark your site. example: free hosting
they need free hosting so they will book mark your site
Oh and simplenetwork.co.uk can i buy taiads.co.uk because its in my name...but i lost the deal but still want the domain back. I will buy it off for 3 dollars or more. Give me a price

^^^ Holy hell, u are only 12! If you have a e-commerce site, submit your products to froogle.com. There are automated scripts depending on your shopping cart system that can easily submit products for u. Also, Google has a new feature called "Google Sitemaps" that helps their searchbots index your site easier, but make sure your code is spider friendly, or this feature mite actually hurt your ranking in google.

have your site validated at http://validator.w3.org/. If you have a e-commerce site, use search engine friendly links, for example:

http://www.pcflyercomputers.us/index.php?cName=media

instead of,
