Default New e-commerce site - best to transfer existing domain, or OK to change it ?

Hi
After awful trouble (18 months worth) with web developers/managers/seo managers (all same company), we've decided to cut our losses and start again. They took our domains as their own (that we picked/checked available/were going to register ourselves) by offering to do it for us. We thought they were being helpful and had no idea they were about to 'steal' them. Our other domain they took, http://www.designerchildrensclothes.com, they now have pointing to their own site!
Anyway, we're a small business and are now building a new site (2000 products - wish us luck!).
We have options re domain names: We can start again again with a different domain name (we own quite a few and thought http://www.thechildrensstore.co.uk might be a good one to go for). Or we can start again with http://www.shopatchild.com (which we also own and is similar to existing).
Or, if we wait until Nov 07 (when contract ends), we can try to get existing domain back (they say we can buy it) and use it for new site, will google etc not notice it's a new site. Will page rank etc transfer with it? We don't seem to have google back-links anyway - don't know what we've been paying for.
Thanks, Polly (noobie with lots of questions!)

Great to see you're starting fresh. For your question at the end..

Yes but you need back links in order to get a page rank from google. The next update is in 3 months from now, possibly later, but this will give you time to get what back links you can gather before this update. By November when the contract ends, and you buy it again the Page rank that you get from all those back link build ups will stay with that domain.

Hope this helped
