seo for directories

Maybe the title of this thread is a little misleading, i won't write tons of advices only one. About a half a year i also own one directory and i recognised that i was the main enemy of the rankings. Not really i but my ignorance about the effect of the broken links. They seriusly hindern the ranking improvement. So if you are a directory owner i would suggest you to download and use this great free software called xenu. It will help you to find and eliminate the broken ones among the thousands. belive me, you won't regret.

definately the market is being monopolised now. and starting a new directory to fight with giant directory owner is a hard game, unless you have few thousand to throw into seo a single new directory.

Yah it is very difficult to start a new directory because there is a lot of big directories that is now being used.

You are right, the market of the general webdirectories has been monopoilsed, but with a niche directory you may achieve really nice results. I'm not talking about the income, but the rankings and traffic. I launched my directory in January and it is already in the top 15 for my major keyphrases thought there are 30 000 000+ indexed page. Til the end of this year i would like to see my site as the No1.

Believed it or not, people still love to submit the website to directory. Especially high PR one. No worries about competing the big one. I still see many small directories grow. there are many directories offer free submit. there is nothing to lose to submit to directory.
