What is the best for your PR? Be listed 1 month on a one PR7 website or be listed on 10 PR4 websites?

I would choose 10 PR4.

If its only PR gain you are looking for, I would say PR7. I have PR7 site and when I linked my new site from it, I got PR6 in next PR update. Its always one less than the source PR.

If one is looking for link popularity, then naturally 10 links will outweigh 1.

Not correct.

Too many dependences and factors for PR, not just "-1".

Is it possible to do both? I agree with dshah. If you want page rank, go for the pr7. If you are looking to build links, take the 10 pr4's.

Chances are slim! but not impossible.

Google updates the link index every month or so and updates pagerank around every three months. So if it happens that in first month itself your incoming link is indexed by google and its time for google to update PRs, you are in great luck! you will get PR gain from the incoming link.

From my personal experience with links (and selling) I have seen new sites getting upto PR6 (from my other PR7 site) in 2-4 months. I can show you this, but not in public.

You are right. Too many factors. I was talking about simplistic case of PR transfer from one page to other without any other factors affecting it.

If at all you decide to take 10 PR4 links, its very important to have all of those coming from different IP addresses (given that they are from different sites/domains).

PR updates approx. every three monthes.
So in about 80-100 days we can see anything shoot.
