![]() | I cannot imagine how difficult it would be if I were to join a webmasters forum based, say, in Hungary, and had to understand and write everything in Hungarian when my mother tongue is English. How hard is that. All you non-English speakers won't think anything of this praise - you do it all the time. You'll say, "Well, anyone can do it..." We native English speakers take our language for granted. Some of you people speak three languages fluently, you are called tri-lingual. Some of you speak two languages fluently, you are called bi-lingual. Some people can only speak one language properly - we are called English. Sincere congratulations to you all. You know who you are. John |

![]() | This topic brings to mind a futuristic movie – “Code 49” with Tim Robbins and hmmm… gee I like her… memory failing. Well the movie wasn’t all that hot but I like how they used particular words from all languages. I would recommend seeing it, cause I do think we are heading in that direction… language wise that is. Heck, I think we are already there… for example when I go to the gas station here and I ask for my tank to be filled I would tell the guy “lleno, por favor” and he would ask “que?!!... lo quieres FULL?” Before anyone tells me this… yes we have gas attendants at ALL stations were I live… it not just me being lazy ![]() |

![]() | Have you ever seen an English speaker trying to converse in a language they don't know well? Their arms thrash about, body movements are convulsive, and they start to shout. I imagine Mandarin speakers just stay still and quiet when trying out their English. Don't quite know where I'm going with this... John Actually, to be serious, I had a career which involved public speaking all around the world - 32 different countries, all the locals had to put up with my English, often spoken quickly when I got enthusiastic and often using colloquial phrases. (colloquial - that's a seriously difficult word) I could not have had such a career if my native tongue had not been English. I salute and honour them all. John |

![]() | Yes there has to be some common medium of communication, and english is it today. You cant develop if you cant speak english. This is the reason many non-english speaking countries struggle to develop

| Smurf | Hi everyone!!! Although English is not our mother language,....but because of this, we are here,...sharing our views and communicating with each other. Ya,,... all people can't understand english but I think its not necessary for every one to know about evrything. As far as the matter of their(who can't understand english) communication is concerned, when they come across such circumstances where there is no way except learning english,..then they learn because necessity is the mother of invention although english is not our mother language. ![]() ![]() Last edited 07-04-2007 at 12:48 PM. |
