![]() | Not that you have to have a closing </head> tag as it is assumed when you have a <body> tag which you do not have. I suggest adding the </head> and <body>. Your title tags <title> is the same on a lot of pages and the title is really too long to be effective. Each page should have a unique title - each page should be striving for its own keywords and phrases - the first 2-3 words of your title and h tags (which you should add) are the most important, spend time in reseaching what keywords you should have for each page. Long and tedious but pays off big in the future. Due to your content/code layout you do need the description meta, each meta description does not need to be long and spammy, just make it relevent to the page - the meta description plays no roll in serps but may be the reason someone clicks the searched page because they found it informative and useful. I suggest naming your images (where it makes sense to do so) with the keywords you are striving for and add the alt="" tag to those images. A lot of shoppers want to see a picture of what they are buying and some use the image search in their quest, optimize your images! Start building links! |

| Member | Just noticed that you're missing your "Meta Tags"; <META name="allow-search" content="yes"> <META name="audience" content="all"> <META name="robots" content="all, index, follow"> <META name="revisit-after" content="2 days"> <META name="Rating" content="General"> <META name="Language" content="en"> <META name="distribution" content="Global"> <META name="Classification" content=" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "> Its good for the SE! (where i placed this -------- you need to add some words about your site)

Ummm, wrong. The meta tags give you no value beyond content (Yahoo and ad bots only), they do nothing for your placement in SERPS. Every meta tag listed in this post is a total waste of space. Delete them! This one is the biggest laugher; <META name="robots" content="all, index, follow">, it is like telling a person to breathe when it is something we do naturally. BOTs follow links, it is what they do. The only use for that tag is to tell a bot when NOT to follow ie, <META name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">. the meta description tag should be used as I discribe above. The meta keywords can be deleted altogether unless you propose to use it like I discribe in this blog entry; Meta Keyword Test

I agree alt tags can be important for two reasons; 1. the alt tag is essentually the anchor text for the image link and two it assists identiying an image when an image search is completed (name the image file correctly too) - very important for ecommerce sites to grab shoppers who a shopping via an image search. Tested this. The title="" attribute is NOT used in anyway in determining keyword placement by ANY of the big 3. Tested this. Meta Keywords are only used as supplimental content by Yahoo, it adds NO value to the search, I only recommend the keyword meta as I described in the blog entry above (common misspellings and other english spellings). Media bots (AdSense) will read the keyword meta to help determine page content but plays NO ROLL in SERPS - if the theme is already on the page the Media bot will identify it and deliver the proper ads, no need to place a keyword meta for this purpose. Tested this. The Meta description is NOT used in SERPS but can have value. It is used by Yahoo as they do the meta keywords, supplimental content only. No need to repeat the phrases already in your main content. Use this tag if the first CONTENT on your page is the same content you see on every page ie, site navigation. This will stop the result looking like this; Gold Chains Home | Aboutus | Other site links In this case write a description meta that will sell the searcher on the idea of visiting your page - if the description is even used based on the search itself - we will discuss the longtail search and result another time. When your code was written were the links are at the bottom of the code and content is first the main content of your page will be displayed and there is no need for the description tag. Do you need it? do a site: command and if you see the same result for different pages then you might want to consider the meta description tag or a site redesign - again, we will discuss longtail searches and results another time.

![]() | Hi All, First of a all a big thank you for your comments. All of them are very useful and I will try by best to implement them. Please note this is my first project so have a lot to learn. Over the next 2 weeks I will add: 1) More Products on front page 2) Drop down combo box for most common categories 3) Update/Improve meta tags 4) And of course gradually start building links. Once again thank you and add further comments if you think it will be useful for www.online-shopping.eu. Viman

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have one additional suggestion to you. If i were you i would substitute the underlines in the mod_rewrite setting with hypens in the URLs of the category names, since in the two or more words categories won't be recognised by search engines unless the are separated by hypens.
