Default What happens if there are duplicate....

Hello!

What happens if there are duplicate articles out there and google finds it?

I think I may have really goofed a month or two back.. I asked at another forum if it was ok to spread my articles around...they said sure, no prob..

I have dups out there. Would have something happend already if it were to happen, being that it was several mos ago?

I know I misunderstood what they told me, I just hope it doesnt really mess me up.

Your thoughts are appreciated!

Michele

At a guess, nothing at all will happen. In all places the article is on a page with other that makes it unique? So I don't think there is an issue.

Here are a few tips that I would recommend you doing, and yes you can be penalized for duplicates.

If you use different landing pages in your advertising campaigns to measure ad effectiveness, you are essentially building duplicate pages. If Google discovers these different landing pages, they may think that you are using duplicate content.
  • Sites that offer the ability to print pages often create two pages that have essentially the same content.
  • Using mod_rewrite to create search engine friendly URL's can create duplicate pages. When you use mod_rewrite the server will serve up the same page regardless of whether you use the search engine friendly url or the regular url.
  • These are just a few examples of how duplicate pages can creep into your website. You should look for more ways that duplicate pages could have creeped into your website.
If you find that you do have duplicate pages within your website, you should use the robots.txt file to exclude the duplicate pages.

My web sites pages are not duplicate, however I submitted the same articles to several different article places. As for my web pages, they are a looking good.

Well, in that case I don't see any reason for a punishment at all. I did some research on duplicate content, and some people say there is and others say there isn't. It's really a toss in the air on this one.

I don't see why the engines would do this as it's keywords in your articles point to those locations and bring up where you have left your work at. In other words, when you type specific words that you have in your articles in the search engines you will find your content

If the articles are also on your own site, then there is chance you could be penalised and the content placed in the Supplemental index (Supplemental Result)

If the articles are not duplicated on your own site and simply duplicated on the sites that they have been distributed to, then don't worry about it your site won't be penalised for it.

Most people that article write for SEO reasons write two version of an article, one for their own sites and one worded differently enough so it won't be detected for duplicate content which they then distribute.

I might be wrong but my understanding from the original post is that the content is being duplicated on other domains.
I don't believe Google would penalise that otherwise your competitors could setup domain and copy your material to get you penalised.

No worries Chart. What she was explaining was that her friend has duplicate articles on the net, and she does as well and is/was afraid that they might get penalized for spreading the article on different sites to get it published and/or listed.

To my understanding there is no duplicated penalization unless the content is repeated continuously on your domain.

I think (haven't tested this) you can eliminate any penalties of duplicate content as long as you refer to the original in the copies. It makes sense to me if you upload the same article to many sites, upload the first one and the rest have a link to the first one you uploaded. It kinda follows the RSS thinking, if another site uses your feed with full content you don't see any penalties because there is a link back to the original.

When you write a great article make it a part of your site (make sure you incorperate social bookmarking options)

Article sites have been starting to hold articles only for a few months (or the page gets orphaned) then removing them from their database giving articles only a limited time to give your site a boost.

the latest news i heard about this is that google will not include the duplicate site in the SERP. even there is, it will be placed far way back.
