Question Directory links SE friendly?

So, the question is:
You are looking to submit to a directory, how can the uninformed (like me ) tell if the links that they are giving out are SE friendly and it will be worth the time and effort?

Have seen some folk mentioning different types of scripts for Directories, what is the difference, how can you tell which is being used, and which are (in your humble opinions) the ones that are good and the ones to avoid?

Cheers

What you are looking for is the rel="nofollow" tag. Simply, when you see the links on a page, go to the Source code for that page, locate the link and check if there is any rel=nofollow attached to it.

<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.link.com">website link</a>

Links without the rel=nofollow should be SEO friendly links, but this isn't always the case. Other things are involved such as Javascript redirection etc.

also if the category pages end with .php or .html
not /applepie?category=wine_cellars

but there is nothing wrong with these links other than they wont count as "real" backlinks and pass pagerank, if you think the directory gets traffic submit to it

Hummm, if i was to buy a link for pagerank(PR) and it's example:
http://www.wiglet.com/news/technology-news.php

This link above would not count as "real" backlinks and pass pagerank..is this what your implying?

fworth, you're correct. nofollow says to SE that he should avoid that link.

I meant what if i pay for a link such as this one:
http://www.wiglet.com/news/technology-news.php

and it had the .php or .html at the end would it still pass pagerank and backlinks:confused:.. i'm more concern about the .php or html than anything else.
