I like that idea, it might be tough to implement, actually, it would be easier to implement than to explain to the many questions that would arise as a result of signature flushing.....But I think that would be a great idea to clean up the forum of signature links that are dead or belong to inactive members.

How do you decide what is and isn't 'active'? Signatures drive a lot of traffic to websites of people who post and forum posting is an acceptable form of symbiotic marketing to a lot of people (both the forum owner and those who post gain from the relationship). If you suddenly remove signatures from a member who has contributed quality content to the site, but retain his content, then that would be wrong IMO.

Signature cleansing is a very fine line and it can kill a forum. Not long ago a VERY large SEO forum removed sig links overnight without warning, and the forum went from being one fo the most popular, to a wasteland!

I think that what was meant wasn't to pinpoint certain members that are inactive, but instead to erase all signatures periodically, and allow anyone that cares to to replace it.....it wouldn't bother me to have to replace my signature, but I would want to know how everyone felt about it before I would ever consider it.

mmm How about a complete global signature wipe & start from scratch, there could even be some sort of comps or tasks for members to complete if they wish to attain additional links.

erm....... that might not go down so well ill zip it hehehe

Hi there

Hmm not sure its a good idea !

It will just make people post less quality posts, just to get their post count up, but i will reserve my judgment to see how it goes

I think it will drive people away from your forum, as theres nothing worse than registering for a new forum and being told what to do by moderators.

I think that this thread may be started before you have registered here, but wasn't promoted enough, that is the reason why you have posted here. The forum rule has been updated with this signature policy some days ago so as a moderator it is one of my tasks to help to apply them.

A very long discussion thread was the antecedents of the new rules and we agreed that implementation is necessary.

Very good post OWG i had 3 links now im down to 1 which isnt fair as i had 3 before, I see why this site might feel the need to impliment somthing like this,

I log on to see my signiture has been removed, why should bother when i can goto other webmaster websites that will give me as many links as i like ?

The simple answer is people wont bother, they will go elsewhere !

Its like taking Candy from a small innocent child, you snatch whats theres & you get this never ending head ache. Way to many issues people i think we should all try a bit of YOGA & chill with natures elements. After all guys & gals its only a small piece of text not Gold Dust

No offence intended for all you SIG-na-Holics

Is it okay that I have my signature like this for right now, untill I reach 100 posts?

Or am I not allowed to have this UNTILL I reach 100?

Because it isn't using a hotlink, or an anchor text..

Btw, how is this not a good idea? I see no negative effects from it. This way, members try to reach 50 (Although, maybe think of lowering it a bit.. per say 30) so that they can have an Anchor text up to raise their PR. Whilst doing that, there's a huge chance they will actually get interested in the forum and become an active and dedicated member.

To be honest I think this is way lame, all your doing is encouraging spammy posts or turning away people who would have used the forum seen your rules and though why stay here I might aswell go to a more popular forum which dont have the same naf rules.

I came here mainly as an extra source of finding link exchanges but find I carnt even do that till I make 50 posts, even then I can only link to one site at any given time. Not much use really when i am looking for link exchange for more than 1 site.

Some of you I can already here saying well go away then we dont want someone who comes here just for link exchanging, thing is that not all I would have done, its just the main reason I joined.

Just my opinion anyways, you guys are obviously all happy with this but...
