They ran around friends and family, managed to bring in a total of $1million dollars in funding, and set up in a friends garage and put Google into beta. There were three of them then, Larry, Sergey, & Craig Silverstein.

A year l;ater september 1999 google was taken out of beta and went mainstream!

Not far off what I said then. but my memory was the initial funding being a million not $1.1

Wow, impressive answers guys. The point as stated what Bagi has made out for this thread is to bring the activity back up in the forums and give you guys the opportunity to show people that you're a trusted source of iWebTool.

This will bring out the people who know their stuff and deserve to be recognized by it.

Give me 10 minutes to go over the information Both OldWiseGuy and Alan have provided.

UPDATE:
Both answers are perfect and detailed. One that I found at most educating was Alans in the wiki, gave exact information as the viewer needs, explains the reason, backs up with facts and continues to explain the perspective of the company and it's involvement with others around them.

OldWiseGuy provided details of almost the same measurements as Alan did, but defined it more of by who and the income it's generated.

Great work to both of you, excellent, and very informative. Congratz to Alan for the informative research and OldWiseGuy has done a fantastic job as well in explaining his details of the business and it's happenings of the up bringing.

It was actively launched on the web late 1999 and through 2000, until the point it was a beta.
I used it in 1999 as a beta http://web.archive.org/web/199905080...w2.google.com/

From what I recall it didn't really hit the newspaper and normal media until 2001 and beyond, not in the UK anyway.
