Hi

I am trying to go through Julie C. Meloni's book PHP, MySQL and Apache, (c) 2005 by SAMS publishing.


In the PHP basics section she says to type a srcript. save it as a certain name and then she says:
"place this file in your web server document root"
What does this mean?

Charlie, i am also a php dummy so i will try to explain that as simple as it is possible. PHP can be tested only at servers, where this language is enabled. So if you want to make a PHP script run, you need to upload it onto your hosting space. Hopefully you have one. So run the total commander or any other FTP client software and set your account (ftp location, login user name, and password). After the connection is set you need to open one. Now you should see the root directory in your hosting space. This the location where you need to upload the scripts in order to test them.

I don't do any of my php testing at my hosting space.
Get something like Wamp server and test it on your local machine.
It would be much more easy.
