Sounds too good to be true? Well I have come up with a somewhat random but I think novel idea and importantly it has managed to catch some press attention already.

To give you a bit of background....basically, I’m 22 and live near Chelmsford in Essex; I came up with the site whilst bed bound with a dislocated hip (not a nice accident!) As a company you can submit a banner which costs $10 (roughly £5) this enters you into a daily draw the winner of which has their banner plastered all over my site for a day, giving them maximum publicity. At the end of the competition one advertiser is selected at random to win up to $250,000 to advertise their company. The idea is to get 100,000 submissions, with the prize money being 25% of the turnover.

Plus every company has a link on my site with the first 500 submitters having their banner displayed on an individual page for the duration of the site; and the latest 3 submitters have a link on the homepage!

Its early days, so far I have had 55 companies advertise with me from cake decorators to chartered surveyors to web designers so a real mixture. The hits to the website have come in from all over the world with 10 banners now even being submitted from Australia! I’ve included several recent articles below for you to see; the first one is from the local press and the second and third are from websites which have covered The One Big Ad.

It's ambitious, but I like that and I think that's why it attracts visitors to the site. Trying to get 100 banners and $1,000 just wouldn't be very exciting would it, it wouldn't create any headlines and nobody would bother advertising :-)?
