I have had pretty good luck with Isnare. It costs a couple of $ but seems to be well worth it.

John,

Sorry for the late response. Lately I return to the forum infrequently due to workload. Here's my take on Google, duplicate content, and the value of articles.

Google has the storage space, so they have every version of every page they ever indexed tucked away. If a term produces 44 million results at 10 per page that's 4.4 million pages to view before you see each one. That's the equivalent of 88,000 books 500 pages long, so SERPs for one search would take a lifetime to read.

Another way to understand how search engines view duplicate content is how they evaluate the intent of the owner. Pages online to deceive the search engines will be caught and punished. Plagiarism will likewise be punished. Deceit, trickery, or dishonesty may mean short term gain but long term disaster.

The SEO experts provide advice based on principles of practical website design and quality content. Details on algorithms and the ebb and flow of how they are adjusted is a highly guarded secret. Website owners can never keep up with the dynamic changes, so design sites for humans.

Posting excerpts on my blog from my full length published articles with links to the full version includes duplicate content. The cross links within my domain showing me as the author is evidence that there was no intent to deceive. That's harmless. Quoting and commenting on blog content by other authors creates duplicate content, but as long as you backlink and credit your source there's no penalty.

Relevance is important, so the sites you mention each have PR2 and may not show up in relevant search terms until page 1 million or later. Any commercial site online 8 years should have more significant PR, so I believe the ranking indicates a degree of punishment. Severe? No. The intent was not to deceive to their advantage, or stealing another site owner's content.

How long does what we put online survive? The Scottish main site's original home page may be viewed as it looked in 1999 using the wayback machine. See the 1999 version of scotia-sc.com here. What we post in forums will outlive us for generations to come, as well.

LSI, Latent Semantic Indexing, is being used by search engines to view the total picture of any given website. Factors in search algorithms exceed 1000, and bouncing PR results show how actively the SE's tweak their engines.

The secret is still providing original content, add fresh content frequently, and design sites for your human visitors. The value in search results will happen naturally, and for newly launched sites that just takes time.

The PR0 pages with your published articles are like a penny in US currency. 1000 links is $10.00 which may not be much, but most people would stoop over to pick up a 10 dollar bill. I will continue writing articles and publishing on my key article directories. It all adds up, and attracting new visitors to my site based on quality advice is still my strategy.

Finally, if you want to add value to your articles, find similarly themed sites to yours that accept articles, and craft one to submit just to them.

Jim

That is stupendous Jd, thank you. It sets the whole thing into some sort of context. I know I'm not supposed to write thank you's in reply, but there are times when you have to. Perhaps the moderators should make my limit 101 signatures.

Jd, I was just re-reading your formidable post.
It seems that google is very clever at sorting out the wheat from the chaff. I expect most of its daily tweaks are concentrated on blocking out the cheaters.

However it seems that it can usually identify no intention to deceive in, say, an article.

On this basis, do you think it is worthwhile trying to re-write articles for different directories at all? It is a lot of work and if I just submitted the same article to many directories it would give me more coverage, more links, and more traffic.

I mean, specifically and only, article directories. Honestly what do I really lose if I send the same thing to many directories, as most people do?

Whaddya fink Jd?

Hi, John,

I was notified by email of a PM waiting in iWebTool today, otherwise it could be weeks before I get back to this WONDERFUL FORUM.

I do not rewrite any of my articles to provide alternate versions for the 50 authority article directories that I favor. In addition, I have recently finished evaluating Article Post Robot as a method of automating the submission of my articles. It offers manual or automatic mode once you copy and paste your article, so the long hours and sore wrist submitting articles just became easier.

There is NO perfect solution for automating article submission. Read my lengthy review of Article Post Robot here on my blog for the pros and cons.

I manually post to each of my top 50 sites to assure the exact category for my submission, and then I submit in auto mode (push a button and take a break or walk the dog) and it publishes my article to another 100+ directories on autopilot. The software is programmed with over 450 article directories, so the option for fast promotion is worth the investment.

Article backlinks are like "votes", and despite the PR0 on some directories there's no penalty, so the value does add up. In another reply on this forum I mentioned the strategy of writing an article to submit as an exclusive for a high PR related site to your theme. I don't have time for that, but still believe it is worthwhile to consider.

Jim
