![]() | Folks, I write articles and publish them in half a dozen directories. I watch the stats and note how the readership varies between article subject (title) and the different directories. The doubt I've got is that they always appear on pr0 pages so the links I get for them might be worthless for my sites own pr. But are they worthless? Some directories get quite high readership for these articles but others get low traffic hitting on articles with the same theme. (I slightly re-write them each time to avoid attracting the curse of Lady Google by having duplicate copy) Should I drop the low traffic directories? There is no doubt however, that my site's traffic has gone up as a result. One article, with good readership results, has directed a lot of traffic to the relevant page in my site. It is not good, well qualified traffic, but at the moment I don't mind that. What questions do other folks have about articles and directories? John |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't think that you should mind the PR of the page they appear on....If the article is good, it will gain in PR at some point over the very near future(probably within 6 months)....However, if you are only changing the articles slightly to avoid duplicate content, then you may be underestimating the search engines....I think that they (SE's) are intelligent enough to know when an article is the same as another, only changed slightly...... |

![]() | Thanks Jumpen. Very useful once again and directly to the point. I always change the title, and re-write the preview, and alter about 40% of the content with re-writes, additions and deletions. Sometimes it is just easier to re-write the whole thing over again. Jumpen what actually happens when you say that it gains Pr over time? That does feel right, but I wonder how it works? Does a crawler pick it up somehow just from the traffic? Jumpen, do you ever get the feeling that you and I might be spending too much time on the computer. I only posted the original 10 minutes ago? John |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yeah, I think I spend entirely too much time online....Nice question ![]() Well, what I mean by "it gains PR over time" is that if the article is good, with a small amount of promotion on that article, it will result in natural backlinks. In other words, not everything is about submitting links to directories....Sometimes backlinking happens naturally. For instance, I've noticed recently on one of my sites a huge increase in search engine traffic....I haven't promoted that site in months, but recently, it has gained a lot of movement in the SE's, namely in Yahoo....The reason why is because the site is all unique, and when someone finds something useful on that site, they have a tendancy to link to it....Without me even asking. That's why I say, if the article is written well enough, and you promote it in a small way, the article will drive traffic to itself. |

![]() | Thanks Jumpen. I think this is called, rather charmingly, "link-baiting" John |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes....Exactly...Only if you can do it without knowing that you are doing it...then you will have a bigger effect... |

![]() | Articles marketing need to add more articles for each directory. more than 20 articles directories for 2 or 3 high quality articles directories are more interested to get traffic than to submit to 100 others articles direcotires. |

![]() | To best market your web site, you should be writing proper articles and submitting them to proper organisations like The Times and The BBC. One good link from a quality web site like them will have more effect on your pagerank than a thousand links from a load of indian article publishers that are never visited by any real readers. |
